Anybody else a big fan of modal windows?
They make life so much easier and they are very effective for marketing. They make the perfect popup, contact page, etc. So much shit you can do with them and they look cool.

depends really which one you use, some of those lightboxes take forever to load, some are good.
i like colorbox and highslide myself. http://planetozh.com/projects/lightbox-clones/ here is a list of most of them ;)

hate them for photo galleries - they are usually slow as fuck too.
i see no benefit to users of Facebook when they went to their new photo gallery display - i don't even see any 'cool factor' to it.
