OccupyWallStreet - 'The Marines (vets) are Coming to PROTECT the Protestors'

http://www.in5d.com/occupy-wall-stre...rotestors.html

October 1, 2011 - TAMPA, FL - The Occupy Wall Street movement may have just received an unexpected surprise ? United States Army and Marine troops are reportedly on their way to various protest locations to support the movement and to protect the protesters.

Army serviceman Ward Reilly posted the following on Facebook:

?I'm heading up there tonight in my dress blues. So far, 15 of my fellow marine buddies are meeting me there, also in Uniform.

I want to send the following message to Wall St and Congress:

I didn't fight for Wall St. I fought for America. Now it's Congress' turn.

dozens were arrested in BOSTON Friday in front of Bank of America headquarters.

no doubt it is gaining momentum. now i am seeing all kinds of people at the protests being interviewed, not just the "youths" who started it.

they are supposedly moving on washington dc in a week or two as well.

Interesting point because if this movement gets huge you know the govt's are going to try to call in the armed forces/national guard to quell the uprisings.

It's quite possible many in the armed forces are making the first move as if to say "no, we aren't going to be your tools to attack our own fellow citizens."

Those marines are just the first. I wonder how many others will now realise they feel the same way and join in? This could get very massive.

My true hope, though, is that we Veterans can act as first line of defense between the police and the protester. If they want to get to some protesters so they can mace them, they will have to get through the Fucking Marine Corps first. Let's see a cop mace a bunch of decorated war vets.
These guys are getting maced.

If this protest is construed to be a political protest and active duty military personnel actively participate there can be a military judicial consequence for them to pay.

10%+ unemployment and wide disparity of incomes is always much worse for the rich than the poor in the long run.
Wealthy people are insulated and won't be affected. The guy with 50M+ can't be touched.
It's the guy with a few Million who gets mauled as the wealthy abandon him and the poor riot.
Smart rich people keep the gap small enough to be tolerable.

As wall street traders have always said:
Bulls make money, Bears make money... Pigs get slaughtered.

Hopefully this is enough of a wakeup call and doesn't get any worse.

This is good news for us, right now our US customers really have very little extra to spend (record unemployment, skyrocketing rent/mortgage/food costs).

If there was some sort of real change in the ole' USA (hasn't been any yet), i predict our sales situations would improve drastically.

Yes, the prevalence of free content and piracy will always be a huge factor but there's always been relatively large amounts of 'free wank' material since the early days of the internet. The pay offering is always better and there are some great ones out there today.

It is no coincidence that our biggest market is in the worst condition it's been for decades. It's gotten bad enough that people are finally taking to the streets.

Hang in there, keep accumulating traffic, you will be rewarded handsomely when times are good again.

Yes, the 'truly wealthy' will be just fine. They always are... but so many people who are 'barely rich' get confused into believing they are wealthy when they are not - and they are the ones who pay the price of civil unrest when income gaps grow too wide. It has happened that way throughout history.

I really hope they can stay on track with the message, if they spread the shit too thin with alot of different things they are going to lose supporters.
keep the focus on govt/wall street, this is where most people agree.

when they try to throw in these anti-capitalist scattered sub-protests it does more harm than good imo.

capitalism is not the problem, corruption is.

on edit- maybe i'm captain obvious today;)

No. It's a very good point to make, and one that radical left wingers refuse to understand. The simpletons on this board tar rail against "greedy corporations" and fail to see that, according to your point of view, everyone in this business is part of "greedy coporations". It's the corruption part that needs to be addressed, not some twisted anti-success communiistic crap.

Not likely, at least not over the same protest.
There are very few countries that are so blatently in the pocket of corporations as america.
In Europe, if we have protests like this, its more likely to be over the EU.

I like the idea of rallying against Wall Street and against corporate greed gone wild, but unfortunately the protesters don't seem to have any plan or goal, other than to bring attention to themselves.

Until the protesters, as a collective, decide what it is SPECIFICALLY, that they WANT, or that they are AGAINST, they will eventually just look like a group of idiotic kids (ie Anonymous) just gathering for the sake of gathering.

This type of protest should have been happening when the banks were failing, and demanding government welfare and handouts from Washington, with OUR tax money!

Now it's two years later, so it's hardly a "timely" Wall Street protest. The people have been screwed over, the wealthy took everyone's money, and no one in Washington (on either side) seem to want to stand with the people against the greed, because the criminals continue to finance their campaigns.

The protest is screaming out for a logical position with an understandable and clear message, and that position should be as much against Congress and Washington, as it is against Wall Street.

A real agenda needs to come together. For example, people threatening to pull all their money out from (blank), or striking against (blank), or boycotting (blank), etc.

To just form angry mobs, without a common direction or goal, is almost stupid. What will be accomplished by this?

For example, change all protest signs to say "Repeal Citizens United - End Corporate Personhood" and at least there is a specific petition that can possibly gain traction, and become a populace focus point. Develop a logical agenda. I'm angry so I am holding a random sign, is not going to gain any sustained momentum.

Seriously, these guys are all over the fucking place. They have no unified agenda at all. They're against corporate greed, as they type away on $2000 Macbook Pros, supporting the largest company in the world. I saw an interview that a guy said "If you have student loan debt, you should be here." Why? Because you wanted an education and had to take a loan? Why not protest the Universities instead for raising tuition each year? Then another sign I saw was talking about animal rights? WTF? They have no clue what they're doing and it's making them appear that they're just blaming the banks for every problem in America. What do they want, the banks to go out of business? They're not even clear on that.

Unfortunately this entire movement is controlled opposition. No way fat toad Michael Moore, Susan Sarandon, Russel Simmons etc etc are going to get involved in a real protest, point the fingers at the right people, and lead the people to harm the criminals who are responsible. I call BS on this entire Occupy Wall st protest. These protesters are tools of the very establishment they claim to want to bring down.
?The best way to control the opposition is to lead it ourselves.?

True. If they just stuck to the corruption angle and nothing else i think you would have 10's of thousands of people in the street right now.
It's the only thing that should be addressed as a unified front.

To simply say "capitalism sucks" or "corporations suck" is going to alienate so many people who would otherwise agree that drastic changes are needed in govt.

For instance-
http://news.yahoo.com/700-arrested-p...030009188.html

If you read the comments below you will see just how many people agree with the basic premiseof these protests, it's astounding really.

But if they keep going off on tangents like "capital punishment," "poverty" (duh) etc., they will probably end up with large splinter groups totally against each other.

By now most people agree that capitalism in a social-democracy is the right way to go, the only thing lacking is a mechanism to thwart corruption...heh...

When shit hits the fan the masses will end up fighting each other and the people at the top will have even more control. Yes of course we will " End the Fed" as many of the signs at the protest say and the current economic system will be replaced. THAT HAS BEEN THE ENIRE GOAL ALL ALONG. So this Occupy Wall St movement helps the very people who put us here in the first place.
Watch this clip of Keith Oberman. Do you guys really think a real rant would be allowed on the mainstream media? Controlled opposition at it's finest!

The puppets who lead the tea party are in bed with the same people who are stoking the flames of this protest, are in bed with the same people who profit from the FED, are in bed with the same people who pay Keith Oberman to squeal like a castrated pig, are in bed with the people who groomed and got Obama elected, etc etc. They think of the masses as cattle for a good reason.

LOL, prison planet is complete bullshit. I would never read anything on that place on purpose. Alex Jones is the most obvious example of controlled opposition which has ever existed. And of course with your post we have the usual "shout them down" tactic that does not counter my point at all but resorts to either character assassination or questions the validity of the quote.

Listen, the FED will be ended there is not doubt about that. But we will have every fat lazy unprepared turd fighting each other. Divide an Conquer. The people who put us here will have even more power and will swoop in and "save" the turds with a new economic. system. Of course the Bill of Rights and Constitution will not be part of it. I would also expect a few false flags thrown in for good measure. People will be controlled with food just like Ukraine 100 years ago where 8 million were mass murdered because they were resisting. Oops, the turds are not supposed to know about that part of history.

So this Occupy Wall St movement helps the very people who put us here in the first place.
Watch this clip of Keith Oberman. Do you guys really think a real rant would be allowed on the mainstream media? Controlled opposition at it's finest!

I think this is comical already. They are all protesting corporate America, using their Apple computers and Verizon cell phones to do it.

Ok have fun guys, I am headed to the hydro races. Just remember to forget about resisting because your great grandparents allowed this country to be sold out 100 years ago. It is WAY too late to do anything other than prepare and protect the ones you love.

I thought anyone with a slight knowledge of 20th century history is aware of that, I assume you are talking about stalins policy of collectivization in the in the 1930s (80 years ago) where millions of rural soviets starved to death. What would make you think people are not supposed to know about that? is it supposed to be some secret info you have found that is supposedly suppressed from the masses? how is it in any way related to current events?

there are some russians and ukranians on this board that im sure could fill you in more on their history.

You are absolutely right, I was off by about 20 years. Sometimes I get these mass murders mixed up. It was the Armenian genocide that was about 100 years ago where millions of the world's most amazing people were marched out into the wilderness to die.

Not going to answer your question though. That is where I stop because there is no point. But please ask the next 10 people you meet on the street what happened in Ukraine 80 years ago and I bet none of them will have a fucking clue. Of course they will know the name of Brittney Spears bloated baby daddy.

To the people who think these protests have no real demands, here you go (obviously still a work in progress):

----- LIST OF PROPOSED DEMANDS -----

CONGRESS PASS HR 1489 REINSTATING GLASS-STEAGALL ACT. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass–Steagall_Act --- Wiki entry summary: The repeal of provisions of the Glass–Steagall Act of 1933 by the Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act in 1999 effectively removed the separation that previously existed between investment banking which issued securities and commercial banks which accepted deposits. The deregulation also removed conflict of interest prohibitions between investment bankers serving as officers of commercial banks. Most economists believe this repeal directly contributed to the severity of the Financial crisis of 2007–2011 by allowing Wall Street investment banking firms to gamble with their depositors' money that was held in commercial banks owned or created by the investment firms. Here's detail on repeal in 1999 and how it happened: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass–Steagall_Act#Repeal . If we wanted to have a BIG IMPACT and we were able to have only one slogan that we could paint on signs and chant during marches within earshot of press, it would be "PASS HR 1489. REINSTATE GLASS-STEAGALL" or "RE-IN-STATE the ACT GLASS-STEAGALL. IT MAKES THE WALL STREET GAMES ILLEGAL"

USE CONGRESSIONAL AUTHORITY AND OVERSIGHT TO ENSURE APPROPRIATE FEDERAL AGENCIES FULLY INVESTIGATE AND PROSECUTE THE WALL STREET CRIMINALS who clearly broke the law and helped cause the 2008 financial crisis in the following notable cases: (insert list of the most clear cut criminal actions). There is a pretty broad consensus that there is a clear group of people who got away with millions / billions illegally and haven't been brought to justice. Boy would this be long overdue and cathartic for millions of Americans. It would also be a shot across the bow for the financial industry. If you watch the solidly researched and awared winning documentary film "Inside Job" that was narrated by Matt Damon (pretty brave Matt!) and do other research, it wouldn't take long to develop the list.

CONGRESS ENACT LEGISLATION TO PROTECT OUR DEMOCRACY BY REVERSING THE EFFECTS OF THE CITIZENS UNITED SUPREME COURT DECISION which essentially said corporations can spend as much as they want on elections. The result is that corporations can pretty much buy elections. Corporations should be highly limited in ability to contribute to political campaigns no matter what the election and no matter what the form of media. The Supreme Court decision is really weird. Read it when you have a chance. The justices who argued for unlimited corporate contributions thought that wouldn't have an adverse effect on democracy and wouldn't undermine the citizen's view of legitimacy of elections. I'm not sure there's a word for that it's so strange.

CONGRESS PASS THE BUFFETT RULE ON FAIR TAXATION SO THE RICH AND CORPORATIONS PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE & CLOSE CORPORATE TAX LOOP HOLES AND ENACT A PROHIBITION ON HIDING FUNDS OFF SHORE. No more GE paying zero or negative taxes. Pass the Buffet Rule on fair taxation so the rich pay their fair share. (If we have a really had a good negotiating position and have the place surrounded, we could actually dial up taxes on millionaires, billionaires and corporations even higher...back to what they once were in the 50's and 60's.

CONGRESS COMPLETELY REVAMP THE SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION and staff it at all levels with proven professionals who get the job done protecting the integrity of the marketplace so citizens and investors are both protected. This agency needs a large staff and needs to be well-funded. It's currently has a joke of a budget and is run by Wall St. insiders who often leave for high ticket cushy jobs with the corporations they were just regulating. Hmmm.

CONGRESS PASS SPECIFIC AND EFFECTIVE LAWS LIMITING THE INFLUENCE OF LOBBYISTS AND ELIMINATING THE PRACTICE OF LOBBYISTS WRITING LEGISLATION THAT ENDS UP ON THE FLOOR OF CONGRESS.

CONGRESS PASSING "Revolving Door Legislation" LEGISLATION ELIMINATING THE ABILITY OF FORMER GOVERNMENT REGULATORS GOING TO WORK FOR CORPORATIONS THAT THEY ONCE REGULATED. So, you don't get to work at the FDA for five years playing softball with Pfizer and then go to work for Pfizer making $195,000 a year. While they're at it, Congress should pass specific and effective laws to enforce strict judicial standards of conduct in matters concerning conflicts of interest. So long as judges are culled from the ranks of corporate attorneys the 1% will retain control.

ELIMINATE "PERSONHOOD" STATUS FOR CORPORATIONS (Sorry Mitt Romney)

RE-ESTABLISH THE PUBLIC AIRWAVES IN THE U.S. SO THAT POLITICAL CANDIDATES ARE GIVEN EQUAL TIME FOR FREE AT REASONABLE INTERVALS IN DAILY PROGRAMMING DURING CAMPAIGN SEASON. The same should extend to other media.

This is a step in the right direction. History has shown we need revolutions like this every now and then to keep the very powerful from squeezing us into serfdom.

If you can think of a better way to get started, the time to speak up is now.

Now, that is a platform that I can seriously see gaining momentum with a good chunk of the American public and hopefully morphing into a steamroller

Let's hope it happens.

According to the Oxford English Dictionary (OED), the term capitalism was first used by novelist William Makepeace Thackeray in 1854 in The Newcomes, where he meant "having ownership of capital"
