Linux users
What's your favorite distro and why? I was using Ubuntu for awhile but switched over to Arch Linux about a month ago and fell in love with it.

I use Ubuntu on one comp but recently built a new a dual boot Debian 6.2/Windows7 -- Debian is stable and fast, not big on the eye candy but a very professional and secure distro. Bottom line, I am impressed with Debian it is available in versions for both servers and desktops, uses apt-get and many other programs similar to my Ubuntu system. (Ubuntu is a Debian based LINUX as are many others.) |

http://www.pinguyos.com/
It's based on Mint/Ubuntu. I like it because I am busy with other stuff and don't really want to spend hours customizing my OS to my liking. Pinguy is almost exactly what I would turn my OS into if I had the time to sit and tweak it for hours on end. Fortunately for me it's already done. |

CentOS on servers, desktops, laptops, the closely related Mythdora on the DVR. Android on mobile (yeah Android is Linux too).

People are fans of different distros just like there are fana of Windows, Linux, and Mac, so you may not get much USEFUL comparison on a forum. Let me say this, though - the top three or four most popular are popular for a reason. So it makes sense to choose one of the well-liked distros unless you have a specific reason to chose an oddball.
Also, if you go to download some software or you want to find a howto you'll probably find a version for Centos/Red Hat/Fedora, a version for Ubuntu, and maybe one for Debian. So using one of the most popular gives you those resources. If you choose a distribution that noone has ever hard of that's based on some other distro that's not in the top three, support and program packages are going to be a lot harder to find. The oddballs may be good for some specific purpose, but for general use it's good to have a million other users helping you, posting about any issues, etc.
