Ladie's of GFY, is it a missed connection for my Mom?

My Mom came down to visit me the week before. She hadn't flown in 15 years, so despite standing at the counter at Southwest, 15 feet from the gate, she missed her flight thinking she had to check in. They re-booked her for free on the next flight.

My Mom is not the chatty Cathy type, but she ends up sitting next to a guy that talks to her the whole flight ... time flies for both of them. They're still talking when I pick her up outside of security. He introduces himself, and despite not caring for my step-father, I got the vibe that he wanted to exchange numbers, so I usher her away knowing that could be bad news. She doesn't protest during or after.

She lost an earring at some point on the trip, but doesn't remember when or where.

Today, two weeks later, she gets a call from Southwest saying that a gentleman found an earring and thinks it belonged to one of his seatmate's and he'd like to return it and giving his number for her to call. Trying to figure out if it was him, she asked if he left a name and the Southwest person said no. Although she lost an earring, she wonders why he didn't say something when we departed ... she also wonders how he even got it.

We both think he thought of a creative way to find out who she is to contact her. She isn't calling him as it was a cheap earring anyway.

We both can't help but wondering if she is missing out on something that was meant to be. She missed her flight when she shouldn't have, got seated next to another 64 year old that she got along famously with and now he's trying to reach out to her.

She says she'll just take it as a feather in her cap since she her self-esteem left years ago ... I say that is best, but I really wonder... should she call him? I can tell that if she wasn't married, she would have called him... but she respects her marriage.

Meanwhile, she's telling me this story on the phone from her bedroom while her husband is in the living room watching Monday Night Football and paying her no mind.

Either way, Southwest gets a fucking A+ for customer service!

halfway into the story i thought mom missed the flight on purpose and went to the no-tell motel with this guy and therefor lost the earring in the bed where he retrieved it. mind back out of the gutter, i realize that is not the case. i do think he held onto the earring to get back in touch with her rather than give it to her when he found it. if she wants to stay married she can't open that door. nice memory for her to reflect back on though.

Although I'm wondering how many Nancy's were on the plane. No more than one or two probably. Plus being the same age, it'd be easy to narrow down to which one. Airlines collect DOB for TSA.

I think she's being legit though. She wouldn't have brought it up again if there was something going on.

I can't stand her husband... I felt like he was using her for years, but then the roles reversed and he mostly pays everything... they're kind of stuck together financially unless one can parachute out into the lap of another. Kind of sucks... I feel bad for her. He loves her and treats her like a queen but he is overbearing and extremely OCD to the point you want to shoot yourself.

Oh and my Mom hasn't driven for three years and her and my step dad are retired. So unless my step dad is driving her to this guys house, or he's coming to pick her up while her husband is home, too ... I really don't see how this can work.

Although when there is a will, there is a way. If she suddenly starts walking around the mall at 7 AM like all of the other retired ladies around there I guess I'll have my answer ... that she is getting alternative exercise.

My grandmother said that her sex life after 50 (and life in general) was better and more exciting than the 50 years before then! She's84 now and has outlived two husbands.

So... don't help her wreck the relationship she has. If she wants to leave the husband, she should do that. If not, don't tempt fate. That's my take on it, anyway.

Saturday night is date night with her husband. She is not to be disturbed on Saturday nights. So yeah, I kind of do know what is going on unfortunately.

Plus my birth almost killed her when she was 32. She spent the first six months of my life in the hospital. I am sure the ladies can imagine some of the stuff that happened.

It comes down to she wouldn't be comfortable if he had the same experience, so she will do unto others as she would have others do unto her.

She wouldn't be troubled if he had a two and a half hour conversation in a plane but if it turned into more (like the woman tracking him down) she would be uncomfortable if he called back.
