I actually really like a few of the movies they've put out over the past year. Especially The Condemned and Malice In LaLaLand, but they really need to step things up with the pseudo celeb stuff. That's why I laid out a plan which is so perfect that there is no way in hell anyone from Vivid's PR department would show it to the big man because it will make them look like a bunch of worthless amateurs. Then again, with the recession and piracy and all that stuff, I guess you really can't blame them for wanting to appear somewhat competent.

It’s almost as if ‘leaking’ a sex tape and turning their legal team into a marketing team is the nuclear option in their hellbent quest to become famous. Or, in some cases, it’s something to do when they want to recapture the glory days of their 15 minutes. The Paris Hilton, Tila Tequila, and Kim Kardashian celebrity sex tapes can fit into either one or the other or even both of those categories.

Last December, Vivid CEO Steve Hirsch gave his celebrity sex tape wish list. The list had some pretty big names. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Posh and David Beckham. Gisele and Tom Brady. Making a list like that is a brilliant idea and great for PR and whatnot but aside from maybe Lindsay Lohan, who was also on the list, it’s likely that none of them will ever do a celebrity sex tape. Why not? Simple. The Kate Beckinsales of the world do not want to be clumped in with the Tila Tequilas of the world. And can you really blame them? The fact that they don’t is probably a big reason why we would want to see them do a celebrity sex tape in the first place. If we want to see true A-listers like Emmanuelle Chriqui or Olivia Wilde do a sex tape, we need to redefine the perception of the types of celebrities who we think would do a celebrity sex tape. That process starts now.

Step one is to look for inspiration outside the US. Croatian singer and actress Severina Vuckovic did a celebrity sex tape. An absolutely stunning Paraguayan model named Claudia Galanti did a celebrity sex tape. A beautiful Brazilian model and former Miss Earth Priscilla Meirelles did a celebrity sex tape. Greek model and actress Julia Alexandratou did a celebrity sex tape. Ridiculously hot French model Helena Karel did several sex tapes. They were all viewed as beautiful, classy women before doing a celebrity sex tape and they are still viewed as beautiful, classy women after having done a celebrity sex tape. I’m sure part of that acceptance has to do with the various acceptance levels of their respective cultures. If that is indeed the case, ask yourself this – “Do you want to be part of a culture that has to settle for a Tila Tequila celebrity sex tape?” I sure as fuck don’t. Maybe I’m just an idealist, but I’d like to think that the Tila Tequila celebrity sex tape has been as popular as it has been because of the world class marketing prowess of Vivid and not just because there are so many people out there who actually want to watch Tila Tequila have sex. I don’t even know why she is even famous but, having watched a total of twelve full length feature porn movies before doing a Top Ten Porn Actresses list based solely on acting ability, I can tell you with the utmost certainty that each and every one of the girls on that list is more talented and better looking than her. Where do I sign?” or “Would the donation be much more for anal?” instead of “Didn’t Paris Hilton do one of those? Fuck no. You’re fired!”

Vivid has built up so much brand equity over the years that it doesn't even need to be news. They use CNN and TMZ much in the same way that many people in the industry use XBIZ. It's beautiful. Not only that, but every time they get mentioned on one of those two sites, dozens of websites and blogs pick up the story and linkback or mention Vivid. The reason I wrote that celebrity thing above was because I wanted to get in on that action. TMZ specifically.

I don't think I had ever even read anything on TMZ beforehand, I just knew that Vivid had a contact there and that I wanted to write something that would be good enough to where they would hopefully help me in getting it picked up. A painstaking amount of detail was put into that piece. From the TMZ friendly way that it's worded to the Clemence Poesy/Chloe Sevigny parallel. While a mention on TMZ is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, I fucking hate link exchanges, refuse to link to crap, and would rather take the time to do something like that than waste away on linkspun. Oh well. So it goes.
