TSA now inspecting vehicles on roadways

Keep in mind that TSA Agents take no oath to support the Constitution of the USA. You have the right to move about on the roadways unencumbered and without showing your papers.

http://tennesseenewspress.com/2011/1...n-tn-highways/
Quote:
"The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security on Tuesday partnered with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and several other federal and state agencies for a safety enforcement and awareness operation on Tennessee's interstates and two metropolitan-area bus stations. They are randomly inspecting vehicles on highways in Tennessee.

The random inspections really aren't any more thorough normal, according to Tennessee Highway Patrol Colonel Tracy Trott who says paying attention to details can make a difference.

"People generally associate the TSA with airport security, but now we have moved on to other forms of transportation, such as highways, buses and railways," said Kevin McCarthy, TSA federal security director for West Tennessee.

To increase national security, the TSA created Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response, known as VIPR, teams, which consist of federal air marshals, surface transportation security inspectors, transportation security officers, behavior detention officers and explosive detection canine teams.

McCarthy also pointed out that Interstate 40 is one of the country's a major thoroughfares, being the third longest major west-east interstate highway in the United States after Interstate 90 and Interstate 80. Interstate 40's western end is in Barstow, Calif. and its eastern end is in Wilmington, N.C.

This is not a surprise considering Tampa, FL bus stations have long been occupied by TSA checkpoints forcing random searches."
Now they can justify groping little girls on a bike in a suburb if they like.

Back in Los Angeles I used to always see this really fat frumpy looking homeland security officer in the grocery store buying donuts. He was doing a great job of keeping us safe.

turning the american dream, the land of free to soviet union state isn't that far out reach and seems to be in full effect, something that most people thought was never possible before.

I just want to point out that the TSA has backpedaled on the airport screening policy they tried to implement earlier this year/late last year even after they repeatedly declared they would not budge. Enough of a fuss will get them to back off. Problem is, getting that fuss is very, very difficult.

It's very sad that our politicians force so many to live in fear that they could get away with overbearing security procedures. Oddly enough, I very rarely feel "unsafe" in this country. We have started down that slippery slope and it's not going to stop.

what do you want to bet that if you were selected by one of these VIPR (yeah viper... how adorable) Teams and decided to shoot video of the encounter they would seize your camera/phone at the very least until the 'inspection' was finished and at worst indefinitely. They would not allow this violation of the 4th Amendment to be broadcast around the world.

Quote:
"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

This seems nothing more than an outright rape of our constitutional rights.....just another reason why I can't stand this government.

And I predict it won't be long before all citizens will have to take a drug test in order to drive an automobile

They already have those in NY. In addition to the checkpoint, they also relieve you of about $10 for the privilege of entering the Big Apple.

I never thought Tennessee was a terrorists hot spot. I've been stopped approaching the hoover dam by TSA, luckily I was traveling with one guy who was carrying his .45, a couple hookers and Hone Lynn... what possibly could have gone wrong?

People are fucking idiots and believe anything they read. Read the first sentence:
I read this as "The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security" is conducting some "safety enforcement and awareness operation". Most likely they are going to be targeting transit buses - Greyhound, etc - which makes perfect sense being as we've had a fair amount of accidents involving passenger buses in the past two years. They are partnering with the TSA because security on public transportation is their area of concern.

We tend to think of the TSA as only having control in airports, but that's only their most visible area. From Wikipedia:

Quote:
With state, local, and regional partners, the TSA oversees security for highways, railroads, buses, mass transit systems, pipelines, ports.
So this should come as no surprise really. Basically the TSA, which is part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, is going to be working with local law enforcement on a number of issues.

It's like the US is turning into Nazi Germany.

I was going to post the same thing really. People are simply too fucking dumb though. I just went over this with someone else on this exact same story.

What happened here is DarkJedi gets his news from drudgereport or had this article forwarded or something to him from someone. And they said "OMG The TSA is doing this!" as the intro link to the article. So by the time DarkJedi reads the story he already has an opinion about it. When, as anyone can see plain as fucking day - the story DOES NOT STATE THAT. Just read the god damn article!

It's the main problem with society today. People get referenced to a story and the person referencing says "this story says this". So before the person even reads it - their mind is already made up on what the story says.

People need to learn something very basic when it comes to news and media outlets.

Correct way: Legitimize facts and then form an opinion.
Wrong way: Form an opinion and then try to legitimize it.

morons...

They are nailing people with random searches at the entrance of LAX. You could just be giving a friend a ride to the airport and next thing you know you are being interogated by cops and K-9.

If you throw a frog into a pot of boiling water, he'll jump out. But if you place a frog into a pot of lukewarm water and slowly turn up the heat, it will boil to death.

Good thing.

They will probably be targetting vans/busses/trucks.

If you have nothing to hide, why worry?

If i had 2 choices:

1. Go to a large city without protection but everyone is singing land of the free, while there could be a big truck loaded with explosives on every corner.

2. Same city but seriously screened for savety. And a few minutes hassle to enter that city.

I would pick 2 any day of the week. Same goes with planes.

Sure, its a hassle to get on my flight to the usa. Sure its lame when people have to wait in line (which is why i always upgrade so i dont have to wait that long).

But do you think if there where 2 planes, 1 of which isnt screened at all and you didnt have to wait 1 minute to board, people would pick that plane? Even when it would be 200% cheaper, i wouldnt get my girlfriends and my life in danger just because of it.

Same goes with cities, events, concerts.

This is the reality. It will never change back.

Last January I had to be in Vegas for a family thing so we drove from So Cal (interesting drive). I saw a large passenger bus driving 85 mile an hour in the fast lane, tailgating cars to move them out of his way. It was so bad I called the highway patrol.

We need someone to be watching over these bus drivers. Truckers too. While generally truckers are very safe, I've read reports about the hours they work. That's scary.

Damn that's messed up.

Airports and other hubs is ok I think, but outside those areas I would guess it violated the constituion.

A act can't legally overule the constituion, you can only change it so there must be something else to it also...

That's my assumption, I haven't been reading about it... but wow it is turning nazi!

Checkpoints is very popular when you need to keep people down

Yeah, that's a bad idea. You know, not they have never targeted the drop off area of the airport before.

You know that airport security isn't only on the planes, but the entire airport right?

I don't understand people. You get pulled over, you let them search your car, if you got nothing to hide you got nothing to fear? Years I go I pulled over, felony stop; Cops thought I had drugs or a dead body and thought I was running from them when I never saw them in the first place. They shut down the freeway, had me spread eagle on the pavement, tossed into the back of a police car while they searched my car. I had nothing to hide, they searched my car, handed me a ticket, and told me to drive safe.

You know when you pull into an airport that it's a security zone and a massive target for terrorists.

Wait until someone discovers the border patrol in California randomly picks a freeway and sets up inspection stations that ALL cars and trucks have to pass through. LOL.

Been doing it for years now.

It will never change back.
the thing is that you are really missing the point. I can understand the view that safety is higher than personal freedoms and privacy I really can. But it is un-American to do warrant-less searches and Americans should be pissed off about it. The government does not have the right to take away the peoples rights without due cause and simply showing up somewhere does not justify due cause in any way and should not be construe as our tacit consent to such searches. We Americans can be a rowdy bunch of fuckers hell bent on supporting various things without much need for explanations or facts. But to witness the erosion of rights that our grandparents would have (and did) die defending and the American publics seemingly unchallenging acceptance of this 'new reality' is very surprising to me and should be fought.

I have no idea how things are in Europe because I have never been there but I can freely admit my ignorance of your laws and if they are correct. But for Americans we need to rely on and have faith in our constitution and for the government to appear to be dismissing it out of hand is a troubling thing for rational minded people over here.

With this taking place in Tennessee, at least they'll be groping members of their immediate family. Maybe they can work things out at home.

Its all a show, if someone is determined to do damage its going to happen. They also know if they do nothing and something happens again, the people screaming about freedom will be the first to scream how could you let this happen? The gov is really fucked either way.

I scream about freedom...if it happens again I am grown up enough to know that it would have been impossible for them (the government) to stop every possible attempt.

having said that it is time for them to work on the real issues that would keep us safe.

a much stronger law enforcement budget both federal and local
much more communication between agencies tasked with the safety of the citizens
and a much more focused use of intelligence from all over the world.

"scream how could you let this happen?" what would be the point in that?

As a republican I say good, although I'm all for less govt and less govt intrusion I have no problem with this or even house to house searches if it helps keep my scared of my own shadow gun toting ass safer.

Exactly. In a free society with free borders some nuts will get through.
