Is it better to find a new domain name or to buy one off namejet or one of these soon to expired sites? What's better over all?

Well of course if you can find a new domain that suits your business for registration fee go for it, only pay a premium if you really need to get something someone else has registered.

Think of the name you want, then see if someone owns it or reg for free.

There is some good to buying older domains with PR, and links or traffic, just have to fit what you want to do!

If you found old domain which you like - buy it! An old domain name is more "trusted" by google.
