COMPTON, Calif. ? Some parents have filed complaints with the Parent-Teacher Association after a former adult film star said she read to children in a classroom at a Los Angeles County elementary school.

Sasha Grey, a 23-year-old ex-porn actress who has appeared in mainstream shows like HBO's "Entourage," was a guest earlier this month at Compton's Emerson Elementary School for Read Across America Day.

Grey tweeted Nov. 2 that she spent the day reading to "the sweetest" students in the first and third grades.

KTLA-TV quoted parents questioning whether it was appropriate to have Grey at the school. Parent Dudley Wheaton wondered why the school couldn't find a fireman or a police officer to read to students.

In a statement, Grey said she was proud to have participated in the event, TMZ reported.

"I believe education is a universal right. I committed to this program with the understanding that people would have their own opinions about what I have done, who I am and what I represent," the statement said, according to TMZ.

"I am an actor. I am an artist. I am a daughter. I am a sister. I am a partner. I have a past that some people may not agree with, but it does not define who I am."

Grey has not appeared in porn films in over two years. She has been a regular on "Entourage" and appeared in the 2009 film "The Girlfriend Experience."

Some parents simply do not want ex-porn stars reading stories to their 7 to 9 year old children. I'm sure that they werent told by school district officials that anything like that would be going on in school. So now some third grader had a story read to them by Sasha Grey, kid says who is Sasha Grey so the kid types it into google. See the problem? The problem that I see regarding her reading to the children is that she continues to go by the name "Sasha Grey" and you are correct - a curious child could type her name into a search engine after meeting her and come across some pornographic material. I wasn't thinking much about that so you pointed out a valid issue that could be a concern to many parents. I was focusing on the fact that she is a former porn actress and could not determine the connection between working in porn and reading books to children...and I see no problem with that in itself.

But yeah, using the same name that she used in her former porn career, I can see why it was a problem with some people. I have no problem with any of that and I agree with you. I never said that someone could not have a successful career in the mainstream field and continue to use their porn name. But to the best of my knowledge, Traci Lords has never spent the day at an elementary school reading to the children. If that had been the case, we would still be in the exact same situation. I also agree with you on the parental filtering.

At the end of the day, I guess the bottom line is that the school should have chosen someone else for the reading. I am still not sure why they decided to choose her in the first place when there are so many other people that could have been chosen...but whatever.

I was trying to search to see if Traci Lords has done any volunteer or charity work, but apparantly nobody gives a shit about her anymore, so I couldn't find squat.

what is the point of the program? to inspire kids to read by bringing in famous people? if so they brought someone in who was famous for getting fucked on film. she did not get famous for her small acting roles.
