Tempur-Pedic Bed

when i was buying my bed, the place sold Select Comfort and Tempur-Pedic. The guy working there had both and said the Select Comfort was better so i bought it but i think the Tempur-Pedic would have been better.

anyone have one?

I actually have the isoform luna... has excellent reviews (sleeplikethedead.com) and MUCH cheaper than the tempurpedic

http://www.isoform.com/isoformlunabed-p-41.html

been on a tempurpedic, don't notice much of a difference. i sleep like a rock on mine, so no complaints

Two totally different types of mattress. Select Comfort being an adjustable firmness via a inflatable air bladder inside the mattress. Tepurpedic being a visco memory foam mattress.

Both are very good. It just depends on your preference. I slept on a Select Comfort in a hotel and thought it was the best mattress I had ever slept on.

Keep in mind that both of these brands of mattresses are over priced mainly just due to the brand name. You can buy other brands of either type for much less, in some cases 1/2 off for the same or better mattress. You just need to do some research and educate yourself as to the various materials and construction processes and shop around.

i use to have a foam mattress and loved it but it wasn't memory foam. the select comfort is ok but you have to keep an eye on the air because it leaks out. i notice it when i wake up with a sore back.

My brother bought a Tempur-Pedic and JATED it. Either carefully read the fine print on that free trial ($300 shipping?) or maybe try a less expensive brand of memory foam.

I have some serious back problems so I have tried every kid of matress out there. I would have to say memory foam works best for me, but I would not buy Tempur-pedic because I think its over priced, I have found other amazing brands for memory foam beds that are just as good or even better.

I say go with what feels better to you, every body is different and picking your bed is a very personal thing.

Good luck to you.

I had a tempur-pedic bed for all of 3 weeks and it was the best sleep I have ever gotten in my life. Of course that meant my wife hated it and we had to get a different mattress(still of very high quality), but its nowhere near as good as the Cloud Supreme we had.

I bought a hybrid temur-matress... Its actually from Tempurpedic, but its not foam all the way through - It has a base layer...

Its lovely. Before, Id stay at a nice hotel, and come home to my old bed, and think - Fuck ! But now when I stay at the same hotels, I come home and think... Ahhhhh......

Tempurpedic Was the best mattress ever till I moved from ohio to Florida. The average house temp in Ohio is 68 to 72, here in florida it's 76 to 80. Turns out when the bed is in a room hotter than about 73 it turns into a marshmellow and I've been suffering on it ever since.

That sounds like a very good point. If the surrounding temperature is to high, the heat adjustable foam will not work as good.

I had a TempurPedic for a month and couldn't wait to get rid of it. Don't get one if:

- you tend to sleep hot anyway
- your back is already hurting (lots more effort to turn)
- you have better things to do with $2,500

There are some hotels that have them, at least in select rooms. Try sleeping in one first. Don't just go by laying down on it at the showroom.

You can buy a great memory foam mattress from overstock.com for under $400.

As someone that has slept on the brand and the generic many nights, I could not tell the difference.

The overstock one uses a regular foam base but the memory foam is thick enough that you never realize it unless you're examining the mattress.

I was looking at that too but I was a little concerned about the quality. I looked at a tempurpedic and it was about 5k with everything included.

I haven't been able to really find any real differences on those other than the tempurpedic one got a 1-2 inch comfort layer. Any experts on this ?

how much is the select comfort? and is that same as the sleep number bed?

i have slept on both sleep number bed and temp pedic and prefer the sleepnumber by far.. the temppedic you kind get stuck in one position and it gets warm easily.

right now i have a $2K bed from sears, felt great in the store but after 6 months its worthless, DO NOT buy a bed from sears, no matter the brand. it is near impossible to return it even with warranty.

Enjoy huffing the off-gassing for eight hours a night!

By the time it goes away... well, let's not think about what happens then. You will have plenty of time to get your health and life insurance policies in order first.

Keeping that in mind...

If and when you get one, for about a month after you open it up to air out, you will be immersed in a vapor off-gassing of noxious chemicals, free radicals from cancerous solvents used to create the foam. At the point that it stops being annoying, that doesn't mean that it is no longer and issue, just that you have learned how to ignore it.

Do some research and look past all the hype of "best sleep ever". Best sleep ever is when you are dead.

A friend of mine bought a Tempurpedic mattress, and he said once he took the plastic off of it, it stunk so bad that him and his wife could not stand to be in the same room as the mattress for a couple of weeks, and once they did finally start to sleep on it, it still stunk (but not nearly as bad) for another month at least.

I'm not so sure I would want to sleep on something made from oil that gave off fumes like that ...

I am very happy with my Sealy Palatial Crest Posturepedic ... We bought it about 9 years ago now, and its still as comfortable as the day we bought it ...

Palatial Crest is the model that Sealy sells to 5 star hotels ... Its a tad pricey, but worth every penny for 15-20 years of the best night's sleep you will ever have.

Its s true that when you sleep REALLY comfortably, you wake up totally energized and ready to face the day!!

We had the door shut and huge windows open with multiple fans blowing over it for a few days and that seemed to work. The pillows retained the smell for far longer for some reason.

Following this thread, i went to the local Tempur dealer and tried a few kinds of beds. They didn't smell at all. Neither did the pillows.

Very comfortable mattresses. I bought the Cloud model.

Yeah, my doctor says those beds should be banned. The long term ill affects are far worse than any benefit...of course we live in a country where pizza is a vegetable. Some shmuck lobbyist probably got these things by the FDA...

Would you suggest a certain brand or style of mattress as an alternative? Is there a more organic/natural mattress with the same comfort level?

Well, not of anything 'Chemically' anyway...
