Unauthorized credit card billings appearing after using Namecheap

It's probably just a coincidence but I am receiving random charges from people I've never heard of ever since I used Namecheap for the first time a couple weeks ago.

has anyone heard of

SCOUT.COM
ECON(AUTHORI) TOKYO JPN

?

It's going to take at least 45 days to settle all the charges from them.

>.<

Hmmm.. A year ago or so I had my card stolen for the first time. namecheap and a filelocker were my recent purchases on that card. My guess was it was the filelocker but maybe not now.

I'm pretty sure mine was the filelocker. The whole process was shady. I've never seen that filelocker again.

I got hit with two small test transactions that never cleared and then $200 to ticketmaster.

That sucks

I've used namecheap for years and never had any problems like this, so hopefully it's not related to Namecheap. Best of luck to you.

Yes, it's probably just a coincidence but I'm posting what happened just in case someone sees those two names

SCOUT.COM
ECON(AUTHORI) TOKYO JPN

showing up on their statement for mysterious reasons. The SCOUT.COM charge showed up immediately after registering my first domain from NameCheap and has disappeared from my statement. The ones from ECON(AUTHORI) TOKYO JPN were all made starting last night at about 10PM to 2AM this morning.

My new card will take about 5 days to get here and charges from my old card I am told take about 3 days to settle before I can dispute them.

Are you sure it's not NameScout.com? Have you used the credit card for any backorders with Pool.com?

Okay, just wanted to post an update to this thread. The charges from SCOUT.COM dropped off my statement, the charges from ECON(AUTHORI) TOKYO JPN settled as DLSITE.COM \CHIYODAKU.

I had to fax paperwork disputing each charge separately. Now they email me back with the following:

Quote:
We have mailed you an affidavit of fraud that needs to be signed and notarized. We also need a police report to be filed on the theft of your debit card information.
Really, I need a fucking police report? I've disputed charges from another card company before and all it took was a phone call.

Fucking Amscott.

That sucks, really

Two stories came into my mind. One is that everyone arguing about Vistaprint, that they put shady transactions on your credit - I used my card about 200 times with them, no problem at all, thank God.

The second is a method what romanians do in Hungary. They hack ATMs and copy cards used for cash withdrawal, they also setup spy cams to catch pin codes. So they copy the card and go to Timisoara, Tirgu Mures, Arad etc. and withdraw cash in 100 romanian lei portions (~30 USD) and just the charges on that is about 6-7 USD or so - until they can do it, they do it and getting rich. They do this with 20-30 cards at a time, and romanian ATMs are not declining any of these.

Anyways, the hungarian cardholder will get informed the best way by the issuing bank. The not so best way is by the monthly statement, or at the groceries when they can't pay as there are no more money on it. To cut the long story short, the cardholder should dispute the transactions one by one at the police then at the bank. Then hopefully the amounts will come back to the account in 3-4 days, if not so lucky - in the allowed max 185 business days (more like 210 calendar days or so...)

It is a pain, my ex went trough this. She thought she lost all her savings of 4000$, but thankfully the bank charged the amount back in advance in full - as I pointed out at them their TOS

Sorry if I was long and boring, it was not my intention.

I used namecheap the other week on a brand new card linked to a brand new account and have had nothing suspicious happen.

I've also used them on my old card a ton. Never a problem.

Interesting!

I just bought a name from someone who used namecheap and I set up a free account.

Not even a minute after setting up the account I started getting spam to the Email address I created just for namecheap. Then my phone started ringing off the hook. I answered the first call and it was for somebody telling me I have a virus and he has the answer in a hardcore Indian accent.

So another call and I googled it... More softeware... and it just kept ringing... had to block the numbers as they came in... still calling but they get auto dropped...

I thought it couldn't be namecheap... then I see this thread.. so glad I transferred the domains out and renewed them elsewhere!

I've never had any of these kinds of issues that I could associate with Namecheap. I've used them for years and have almost 200 domains with them.

I bought a 20mins session on a competitor webcam site and I swear I had my credit company on the phone in under 60 seconds asking if I had my card still on me and had i bought anything online. When I say under 60 seconds, I REALLY mean it, I didnt even manage to get the card back in the wallet . These people were like credit ninjas. Actually quite disturbing as I had visions of my punters being called by a fraud credit office mid stroke whilst being online to a camgirl. CC companies getting good at this stuff
