This thread REALLY makes we wanna go out and play !

I would also suggest with BC Canada.
I personnaly have a thing for Revelstoke; because it snows non-stop and the tree runs are just amazing, and Kickinghorse, which is also not to be missed...especially if you don't mind a little hiking to get to higher/more secluded tops (T3-T4). Then the powder is amazing Brutal chutes too, awesome ! Amazing terrain..

Love it.

Forest, wasn't it you who had told me about a little secluded place in Argentina where they fly in only once per week ?

Jordan, sick pics man ! Zermatt is on my list now ...

Gotta start planning the next trip ...

I've seen just about all of them in the U.S., been to the French Alps but nothing tops Whistler/Blackcomb.

you're kidding right?

From this trail map, apart from whistler bowl/grandfinale, the runs look nothing special...

Looks good. I think you can compare it to the French Alps!

Was at Heavenly in Lake Tahoe the last two days... can honestly say that skiing isn't for me. The only skiing I'll do is on the water from now on. A few pics... Going snowmobiling today... here 'til Thursday, so gotta find more to do, since I'm done with skiing. :-)

It completely depends on what you are looking for. He said best resort so I say Whistler based on it's enormous size, variety of terrain, great village nightlife etc. It certainly isn't the most extreme. I would put Jackson Hole up there if that is what you are looking for but I didn't read that in his question.

That being said there is plenty of challenging terrain on these mountains. Maybe you only Heli in Alaska or something.

Nah, I was retorically replying to his brush off of the Alps... as in "he's been to the Alps, but Whistler is still the best" - I've been to only a fraction of the Alps - 3 times each year for the last 20 years and still I haven't "done the Alps". Hell, I haven't even done the French Alps (although the south has been done to death and La Plagne, where we have an apt I know like the back of my hand.... but that is just a tiny fraction.

I know Paradiski (la plagne/les arcs) blindfolded, and it is two resorts linked by a telecabine much like whistler/blackcomb and by comparison, it is *huge*. And it's off-piste (guide advised) in the valley between the two is excellent - by the looks of that plan, the valley is mainly wooded, which doesn't make for great off-piste.

Oh, and btw, I search for the all-in-one resort - having two kids that go to ski school, I look for great shit between 8:30-1pm for the adults and the great family runs from 2:30-5:30. Which is why we have an apt where we do. Too old for the apres-ski, which is why we are in the lesser known small villages in the massive station.

Never done heli-skiing but done heli-climbing in the dolomites - eliminates days of useless trecking leaving only the fun bits ;)

btw, here's paradiski plan, my favourite (only major trails shown, due to its size) - 4 major mountain ranges and I can tell you, the off-piste from the glacier bellecote down to the valley between les arcs and bellecote are f***** excellent. Done 6 in my lifetime (there are hundreds of gulleys) and they just kill you with fear and thrill (guide essential)

the off piste trails I was on about are these - grab a guide if the glacier is open and do these trails (there are loads, but the ones I did I can vouch for ;) )

~1500m (1mile) descent pure adrenaline.

Basically same here but I still do it. Only way to get the fresh powder at resorts unless you just happen to get dumped on that day.

no idea in USA - yeah, my CC covers up to 15k€ in fees for winter sports accidents. If off-piste, it is also *only* covered if accompanied by a ESF (french ski school)-qualified) guide. I only ever do those kid of trails with a guide cos to be honest, you can't see shit and so you trust when he/she goes down a gulley, there isn't a 100m drop waiting you!! But at €120 per half day, when you are 6 or so, it's well worth the blast (edit - haven't done that in over 5 years, so prices will have changed!!)

In any case, since this is an international board, I think it's quite important to point out the colour coding of trails between the US and Europe (quite important!!)

Correct me if I'm wrong anyone that's ski'd both....

Code:
USA Europe
green for cars
blue green
red blue
black red
* black		red
** black	black
off piste	black
no insurance	off piste

I'm often off piste .... but try to stay close to the piste. If a lot of snow has fallen ..... I continue to enjoy the slopes.

woah!
Found a cool app....

records everything, speed altitude, total level change...
check it out... (sorry for the crap picture, it was the pad taking a pic of the phone display)

btw, this was a day with my kids, the 78km/h was with my 9 year old - he was well stoked. Me too for that matter as I've never had a reading on speed. I'm sure though without the kids I could top 100....
34.6km though covered in a day with a 9 and 6 yr old isn't bad!
