Useing Zippo Lighter Fluid to clean a circuit board?
GFYs NOT the best place to ask, I know... But I'm sure some of you will know this...
Can I ? Drink got spilt inside a remote control. The sticky stuff of the case, and rubber pad, has been cleaned with good old soap and water, and is fresh clean and drying nicely... When it comes to the sticky stuff on the board people say use pure alcohol / methalted spirit / WD40 etc... But I dont have any of those, so would Zippo Fluid do the same job? Actually, in all seriousness, I just tried it, and it appeard to work a treat !
Gotta put the thing back together later to see if its good, but all the sticky shit (I like sticky shit...) Came off straight away, and then the fluid stuff just dissolved off the board... Kewl Beans ! |

Zippo lighter fluid is bacially something the Yanks call "naphtha" i believe. The guitar builder guys use it all the time to clean the guitars down so i dont see any problem with using it on a remote control. just make sure its really dry, you dont want the batteries to cause a spark or anything!

Use a dielectric solvent made for electronics -- an auto parts store would have it.
As an alternative; use dry and clean compressed air. |
