Anyone wants to do a Programming Project for Adult.com?
I need a bounce email parser for mailserver logfile. It needs to run on Windows.
We are cleansing some old member's lists. It would parse the emails from a mail inbox file like below, and be able to recogize a soft bounce (mailbox full, server busy etc.) from a hard one (user doesn't exist, etc.). It need to be fast, so I guess written in C or some other 4GL. Shoot me a price (lensman at adult.com) Here's an inbox sample: From <> Wed Feb 05 15:29:46 2003 Date: Wed, 5 Feb 2003 15:17:49 -0800 Message-Id: <[email protected]> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii From: "Postmaster" <[email protected]> Sender: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Subject: Undeliverable Mail X-Mailer: <SMTP32 v7.13> Status: U X-UIDL: 344464282 Unknown user: [email protected] Original message follows. Hey Lens, I'll write you a kick ass script if you don't mind using one written in Basic.
(It's the only language I remember how to write) Yes I'm a TI, Commadore, Amiga war veteran and proud of it.

Unfortunately what seems simple on the surface is not due to non-standards (RFC 821) conforming mail servers. There are over 300 bounce codes you will potentially encounter and need to parse. Depending on the size of your list, it may be easier and more time / cost effective to use a list verifier, although these have issues with certain domains also.

i'm working on that exact problem for my mainstream biz. Final product will be windows executable with standard form/menu style GUI. Don't know if it will get 100% of bounces, but its gotta do a pretty good job.
When I get it finished in my COPIOUS free time, I'll check back and see if you still need something. Probably gonna be a day late dollar short tho. |
