Hmmm, well I have only been in the USA Rocky Mountains..so I can not provide a global perspective; however, in the USA I feel Vail is the best That is based on going to the following USA Resorts:

In Colorado: Vail, SteamBoat, Breckenridge, Beaver Creek & Key Stone

In Utah: Park City, Brighton, Deer Valley, Snow Bird & Alta

In Cali / Nevada : Lake Tahoe / Heavenly and Squaw Valley

I agree.

Skiing in the US sucks huge donkey balls. Two hours in line, fifteen minutes down.

Skiing in Switzerland... Two hours uphill in a fucking train at 6am, then spend the rest of the day skiing down. Fucking awesome. I went skiing in Switzerland once for a week, came back to the states, skied once, and was utterly disappointed.

En route to Saas-Fee, we had to drive the car onto a train.
This was the kind of view we had.

Thats insane. Did that in the summer at Como/Lugano this summer .

I have gone to Mont Tremblant, about an hour North of Montreal for the last 2 years. Amazing little ski town, good snow, great people, top level hotels (ski on ski off), good food, a lot of snow bunnies. I do only recommend going in late February, early March. This is when I have gone and the weather is great. I was told not to bother in december - january because it is just to damn cold.

This is where I stayed last year and it was probably the nicest hotel I have ever stayed at in my life. Blows any Four Season, W, Ritz Carlton out of the water. Boutique with not many rooms, each room has a fireplace that they light for you at any time if you want. The rooms are huge and all have balconies overlooking the lake. It is about a 2-3 minute walk across the street to the lift, very doable with equipment, but they will drive you in a shuttle anyway and take your ski's and poles for you. When you come back to the hotel, they have seating to take off your boots and give you brand news slippers (each time you come back) and put your boots on heated boot dryers. Pretty great experience.

I forgot to mention that the place has a spa, and you can use it for free when staying there. sauna, steam room etc.

Or you can check out the Scandinavia Spa right down the block. This place is sick.

In Colorado: Vail.

Sebas the main difference between boarding there and boarding in Europe is that even on the best snow day here you´ll never have the kinda power that they get in North America, its just something else.

Can't beat Utah snow.. hands down the best. However, we did experience Steamboat 3 years ago and it was amazing; great little ski town and very good slopes.

For Skiing: Alta, Snowbird and Deer Valley. The verticals in Little Cottonwood are exceptional. Deer Valley is a great all around resort and they are a little uppity there so you feel uppity for the day. Sometimes that's a nice touch.

For Boarding: If you like to cruise, anywhere but Alta (heard they are opening to boarders next year.... oh noes!!!!) and DV takes em. If you are into terrain parks, you can't beat the one at Canyons (hate that place with a passion except for the terrain park.... I have deep rooted issues with it lol). TP is the craziest thing I have seen. 70 or so features, gaps, etc. It's as long as a full run. Check it out if you are into that kind of thing.

I like the canyons tons of terrain. Havent skied DV yet but plan to this season. if Alta opens to boarders there will be a huge locals revolt.

Brighton is the boarders mountain from what im told. Never boarded never will but they have some really good tree skiing.

Powder Mountain rocks on Pow days. tough to get to but with over 5k acres of skiable terrain and much less grooming than most its a great place. plus they have 200.00 all day cat skiing which ROCKS. you want steep check out the Olympic downhill run at Snow Basin. fucking shit drops like no tomorrow!

Yeah I never boarded...I grew up surfing, wake boarding, skate boarding and snow skiing and I am a great Florida skier I want to learn to board though and I am sure I would pick it up pretty well..

Are you planning to make a trip when you are here in January?

Another one for the French Alpes
La Plagne for me... 1250-3250m

Included there is Paradiski, with its 250+ runs covering a total of 429km of pistes, it's just awesome.

La Plagne is awesome! So is Vars, Val d'Isère, Tignes, les 2 Alpes and Chamonix

It really depends on two things, the time of year and the style of skiing you like. Eruoland tends to have less grooming, terrible lift access but massive mountains.

The US has way better lifts and grooming, but you give up some vertical. I love Wolfcreek in Colorado. You also get access to about 5 other world class hills all within 45 minutes drive.

Best accommodations and amenities for sure, and biggest vertical drop, most skiable acres, etc...

But snow conditions? Ugh. Growing up riding Whistler every year was always a mixed experience

I must have had bad luck then, it was crunchy and icy last February... Lack of good tree runs was a disappointment too
