Scare mongers in here please.

Read a lot about the US Government wanting to ban porn on the Internet, in fact reading some posts you think they want to ban everything.

So reading this thread https://gfy.com/showthread.php?t=1052559 it suddenly hit me. There's a very easy route to shackle the Internet, not least the porn Internet. That if the Government wanted to they could take.

But then if the fear mongers thought about it, they wouldn't be scared so easily.

Not worried about it. If they do away with online porn, porn will find new media or revert to old media.

And if they want to shut down the entire net, that's in the works too. It's called the Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act of 2010 (internet kill switch).

But lets face the facts, the can do whatever they want with or without laws. Having a law in place just helps them catch less heat, but in reality, they do what they want anyway. There is no accountability and they can shut us all down just as easy as they can drop a bomb on 100 civilians in Pakistan, or extradite a citizen from another country to stand trial in the USA, or now, arrest and detain US citizens indefinitely, without cause or trial. Shit is so out of control it's not even funny. Looking forward to the next decade.

We should be scared of the Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act of 2010 then.

In the US, we have a thing called the First Amendment, which largely prevents this.

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned it here on GFY, but the YNOT newsletter last night had an article about how they are banning porn in Bangladesh. Very interesting.

"The Government" doesn't want to ban porn. Some people in the Government want to ban it or are pressured from outside forces such as religous and moral groups, and fucking idiots like Michelle Bachman.

Precisely. They could do it easily if they wanted to.

There's a law that stops people selling or displaying porn to minors, if not they create one. Will sail through. They then include adult websites into the law, no age verification, proper one not a click, and the site comes down. So what is "age verification"? Not a credit card for sure. Not even a pass/verification from the post office. They can be stolen by a minor.

So people who can prove they are over 18, can get into the site and first Amendment is covered. Unless a similar law covering porn shops also breaks the First Amendment rights, it's done. They can loosen it a bit if it's too tight.

This also applies to any site that breaks US laws. The Government controls what comes into the USA all the time. Try buying weed in Holland and taking it through customs.

No specific law has been created to exempt the Internet from established laws. Until one is created, the law applies. If they wish to enforce it.

Read the above and ask a First Amendment Rights lawyer if a law that covers shops does not cover the Internet.

Mark was spot on, they don't want to and know if they did they would get voted out in a heartbeat, well 4 years of heartbeats.

Who exactly would cast their vote based on what a Government did to porn?

As for a "kill switch"; the Internet was designed to be unkillable. Shutting down "the entire net" is utterly impossible, outside of a particularly bad episode of 24.

Gotta love an old English guy who lives in the Czech Republic spouting off about the American First Amendment. Which it's obvious he's quite clueless of

Maybe you can explain it to me then. I get tired of listening to pussies posting that the Government wants to shut down porn online. with what ever law they try to establish, had the same people saying the same thing over 2257.

This was one http://freeinternetpress.com/story.php?sid=3868 yes I know it's old. The clown who wrote it is clueless and probably saying the same about SOPA.

No they won't and don't want to kill the Internet. This is about the pussies who keep telling us SOPA is an attempt to censor online porn or the Internet. Damian claims it will crash the Internet.

There are a few countries who already block online porn. The smarter people usually find a work around, but the general population has to do without.

Most major porn sites, pay or free, are blocked from where I am. I have to use a VPN if I want to get any work done.

You can slow it down, but you can't stop porn. Not even in Communist China where being an adult webmaster will land you 7 years in prison. Porn will find a way, change formats, or do whatever it has to do. That is one thing you can count on in this business, is that the scumbags who run it will never stop finding new ways to distribute filth and find new ways to rip someone off.

The USA, the UK and Australia could all ban porn online and there would still be copious amounts of online porn, it would just relocate to more friendly jurisdictions. I don't see it working at all, the Internet has traditionally routed around censorship.

As Porno Jew said, not everyone has their entire business wrapped up in porn so for many censorship would just open up new opportunities elsewhere.

Start listening to the US Federal and Supreme Courts and not the pandering politicians with half-baked ideas.

There is a substantial precedent of Court of Appeals and US Supreme Court rulings guaranteeing the right of "adult non obscene pornography" to be created and published -- the word "published" also means published in broadcast and digital (Internet) media.

What is legislated and then litigated is the restrictions placed on this "legal speech" as well as its standards of obscenity.

However, the fundamental rights of "speech" when it comes to pornography dates back 50 to 30 years ago -- it is long established.

So, no matter what some governmental jack-ass thinks that will ensure his reelection proposes; most proposed laws, with regard to porn, will either die in the legislative process or if promulgated -- in most cases be struck down by the Courts.

There might be porn online, but the way to stop it going into the US is easy. And that would make sites have to block US traffic or get them hit.

Think of making billing companies, hosting and advertisers liable. So without taking away the domain or even blocking it.

The point is, the scare mongers have another agenda. They want to be allowed to do anything. And that's resulting in anarchy.

Internet porn is not going to be banned in US unless porn is banned entirely (also offline).

What since 1970? No it was before then I'm sure.

And Rochard, who gives a fuck here. What they do in Bangladesh? Not like it's a major source of sign ups. Probably cut a few hosting bills.
