I had a red long hair mini about 20 years ago. That dog was a constant source of entertainment. She needed her own TV show.

They've always been called the big dog in a little package. She had some balls on her.

I never have owned them, but a couple friends have them. One friend has two, a male and a female. They are loud and obnoxious, but it is likely due to a lack of training. The other friend's is a mean little shit. I have been bitten by it twice. If they have anyone come over to visit they have to lock it in another room or it will bite someone.

They're like any other breed that if taken away from the job they were bred for, will make your life hell if you're a lazy dog owner.

I know someone like that with a German Sheppard, and this dog is like Lucifer in his neighborhood. No one goes near him, and he runs the show at his house. I feel more sorry for the dog, because the poor guy may end up being dropped off at a shelter because he's out of control.

My friend with the two obnoxious dogs tried to take them to obideience school and was kicked out of the class. The teacher told them that they had to get some control of the dogs and told them what to do. The dogs are find so long as you are in the room paying attention to them and they are getting their way. When he and his wife would go to work they put the dogs in the garage and they would howl and bark all day long. The neighbors got so sick of it they called the city and reported them multiple times. If they left them in the house they would destroy anything they could reach.

Eventually they had to doggy proof the house so they could leave them inside and not come home to a chewed up, destroyed house, but still they dogs found ways to destroy by digging into the floor. It is a sad situation.

dachshunds are good dogs, most i've seen are at shows but always well mannered and playful.. funny how the most easy going, friendly dog looks vicious during a game of bitey face.. hehe

I have a yellow lab and a curly coated retriever at home that were doing that all night last night.

I love Dachshunds!! I have a 6 yo Miniature Red Dapple Smooth Coat Dachshund who is the best dog I have ever owned. Anyone who comes over wants to take her home because she is unlike any other Dachshund they have seen. She is very docile and loving. I trained her to bark at the door because I am in the back of the house and its tough to hear when all the computers are going. She loves watching TV in the Theater Room and chilling beside me and the wife.

They have one of the coolest jobs also. What's more pimp than going into a badger hole, and being pulled out by your tail after you get a bite on the prey?

it's all about proper training. if you tell them "come here or not!" they come - or not.

Some cute freakin dachshunds here.

My guys have 3 priorities... #1 LOVE... they'll never miss a chance to hang out or lick my face. Both of them vie for laptime. #2 FOOD... they both beg like crazy but i'm very careful not to give them too much, as dachshunds can put on weight quickly #3 PROTECT... well, the older one that is. He'll bark at any perceived threat and then learn if it's safe or not. He's actually teaching this to the younger one.

goodgirl has a miniature long haired that now lives here. He was pretty much a prick in Indiana, but living in CA and being with Buddy has helped him a lot. He will make his first show appearance in Phoenix.

I *think* my son has one

I have only seen a few times, when I am round his house, its often in the other room... When he comes to mine, its in the car, cause of the cat...

But I *think* its a long hared Dachshund

Mine is a beagle/dachshund mix (doxle). He's tri colored like a beagle but has a long body and short legs like a dachshund. I never cared for dachshunds but my little guy completely turned me over to them and now I absolutely adore them. A lot of people and breeders tell me that his personality is completely dachshund and I have to say, there is never a dull moment with him. He does tricks like speak, play dead, sits up on his hind legs, and shakes hands.
