VPN providers are suffering from credit card fraud lol!!!

http://www.getvpn.net/faq click on "What does payment verification mean?" :

"VPN providers suffer severe loss due to massive credit card fraud in this industry. Every new account payment is being checked manually to avoid fraud and once it's checked your VPN access is being provided. Usually it takes from one to few hours."

I found this when searching for a service that provides with a database that contains all ip addresses used by VPN providers, credit card processors use such databases too probably. I already use the ip-to-country and open-proxy databases to prevent password sharing and content theft. All suggestions welcome.

there is no VPN database simply because there is no way to tell what an IP is being used for OR if is the terminus of a tunnel/vpn.

you could get a list of IPs that are known to belong in datacenters, but then again those could be caching proxies too.

just like you check if its an open proxy, check for openings on well known VPN port numbers.

Of course they are. Carders use them for carding, and if you're gonna card anyway why not card the VPN as well?

When using the ip2location ip-to-country-host database I'm always getting hosts resolved for any ip address and some of those hosts have names like anonymouse.no or virtualip.fr . I can't look up the actual values right now so these are just examples. If an ip address wouldn't resolve to a host name I could simply disallow access based on that because an ip address that belongs to a legit service provider always resolves to a host name. So some kind of VPN database should be possible.

Yes that's my point, it's a dog eat dog situation

There's a lot about this on Google, vpn providers now want to set up a database to share information as an attempt to prevent fraudulent usage of their services

I never used a VPN, wouldn't know what I would need it for, and how to use it.

The internet is turning into a scumbag paradise.

I check every could years for a service that does this, still nothing really can keep track and make a profit I guess. I tried to start a known proxy or vpn list and I could find a way to manage it efficiently so I let it go.

That's a very risky rule to apply, there will be plenty of "legit" providers that have a broken in-addr.arpa delegation, or a clueless admin.

How do you know the VPN services don't run off a dedicated box sitting in a legit provider anyway?

Not applying any rules and keeping your site wide open for content thieves is much more risky. I rather piss of the individual member who is already depressed due to his porn addiction anyway and see him cancelling his subscription as a result, then having to find my latest content back on all the file lockers.

Also, again, with the ip-host-country database I'm using now, 99.9% of all ip addresses do resolve to a host.

If you want to go to that level, you'd probably be better off trying to figure out if the IP is from a webhost, cloud provider etc... it would be pretty unusual to have a human accessing your site with a browser from one of those.

Or go further and only allow IPs allocated to ISPs.

Yes I do see entries from webhosts from time to time... basically VPNs are quite easy to recognize using your own eyes... host names you name saw before, or host names that clearly look like hosting companies. And there's more... but they may be reading here as well, so... And that's why a database would be better.
