Fed Up with SmartThumbs

Been a fan for a while and using them for like 10 years or however long its been but after running a multi category website with them now and actually caring about SEO instead of my cookie cutter tgps. Definitely wont be using them for much longer

When you create a database of content with smartthumbs, of course youre going to select multiple thumbs from a gallery as theres usually more than one good one , or you just want your surfers to rank the best ones, either way, you usually have multiple thumbs per gallery. Well with this being the case, i have tried to make categories and well, i have about 50 unique galleries for one of my categories, but can i have all 50 unique galleries on a that page? nope? because it picks 50 images from only like 20 unique galleries. you'd think a script that knows exactly how many unique galleries it has , would only list one thumb per gallery unless you fall short and only then start using more than one image per gallery.

So lets say I want to show a thumb from all 50 galleries? I can't, not even possible. Even if i create a template with 100 marks. I will probably still only get about 30-40 unique galleries and a whole whackload of duplicates. Illl get closer.. but not without having 10x as many similar thumbs on that page

ST, YOU NEED TO MAKE IT SO ONLY ONE IMAGE PER GALLERY REMAINS ACTIVE ON A PAGE!

im looking at about 50 websites now and i see similar thumbs side by side.

how can a script be in business this long and not fix these simple things

and since most people apply the same description and alt tags to a gallery and not do each thumb by thumb, theyre going to get penalized for having a ton of duplicate alt tags im sure.

I tried talking to Bepe and after i finally explained what my issue was, which took a bit as im sure english isn't his first language. He stopped responding.

I feel like im very limited by the lack of smarts by programmers and the lack of available options out there. And yes, I could look at paying people to program my own stuff but the profit margin on most things (definitely tgps) isn't high enough to start paying people for every little custom thing.

Shouldn't really need to either. Some things should just be standard.

For example. Who would create a gallery builder without an export tool? lol (arylia)

Smarthumbs also doesn't think its at all necessary to have a sort by date option for their script either. yes a thumb script. never understood that. I mean, it's a very simple addition, even if most do not use it. I can think of many more options smartthumbs has that people dont use. Why not one that makes sense like sort by date

Another option they don't have, a way to add a block of todays new thumbs. You can have them inserted in a certain spot in ur main block of thumbs but with the standard rotation options people use on their main content, Last Clicks and By Average, new thumbs will get bumped out within an hour or two.


Anyway it looks like the only way I can run a website with categories with this POS script is by only selecting one thumb per gallery. And if that were the case, I wouldn't have chosen this script and would have went with one that sorts by date as theres no point in rotation if it doesn't have other images in the gallery to rotate in sometimes.

On category pages should not be visible duplicities only if you will
add new/old thumbs to top or to bottom of page:

if you have 48 marks in template and you want add 6 new/old thumbs,
you could set to add new thumbs to position 0 or to position 42 and
duplicities should not be added to page
