Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant Control Room today (Pic)

Wow

I don't know why but this picture is beyond cool. I would love to go to this place, covered head to toe in a protective radiation suit of course, and walk around this place. It must be scary as hell.

More pictures and details at Gerd Ludwig's 'Long Shadow of Chernobyl' project: http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/201...dow_of_ch.html

I love photos of deserted buildings and the like, and I've always an interest in Chernobyl.

Chernobyl is why the rest of the world has the right to inspect all nuclear sites in all countries - to avoid something like this from happening again.

Amazing pictures, thanks for sharing those! I wonder if these were taken by human or robot. I still think the site is too radioactive for humans to go inside like that and will probably remain that way for thousands of years

That is terrible. Nuclear power should be used as a last resort. Like we all have to live underground and hide from the winter. Then you use nuclear, to power all the lights for vegetables etc. Not now, when we have tons of options to create power.
Money made the nuclear decision. Sad

I disagree. If they can ever figure out a way to use nuclear fusion then the world will have an unlimited energy supply and we could do away with the fossils, which probably cause as much or more harm than nuclear ever has.

Atlanta, New York, Florida, Indiana, Texas, California, Michigan, Wilwaukee, Chicago but no Chernobyl.

The control room was sealed off a couple of years ago. This vid is from just before they bricked it up. As well as the control room they also show a monument/shrine to one of the workers who is entombed in there.

Nice options can be added:

- AK-47 and Dragunov sniper rifle shooting.

- Missile rocket base tour.

- BRDM armored vehicle driving.

I wanna go!

hydro has killed a lot more people than nuclear, and people in Japan were killed by the tsunami, not the nuclear plant.

Chernobyl was a military plant with an unsafe reactor design.

Japan has overreacted and now faces energy shortages, likely thousands of elderly people will die without air conditioning during the summer.

Hell mortality rates for installation of rooftop solar panels are in the thousands per year just in the US, no form of energy is 100% safe

Thats right - as strange as it sounds, Nuclear is the safest energy, and oil is the least safest.

Question for shooters: How do you get the colours to punch out like the first shot? The floor is RED, the control panel is BLUE GREY GREEN, etc? It doesn't look like he just cranked the saturation. Is this HDR or something? If its a long exposure shot, where is the grain? Would appreciate some advice on how to take awesome pictures like that. I have a Nikon D80.
