Conspiracy theorists are like hipsters

Both claim to be unique and insightful, yet both mimic others in their group.

Conspiracy theorists are like paranoid schizophrenics. One is paranoid with schizoid-like tendencies,

the other is just plain nuts.

You might be a little bit more believable if it were just an official story here and there, but when you can't accept anything at face value and always spin it with some hidden agenda or secretive plot, you lose what little credibility you might have had.

Except for sometimes conspiracies end up being true after all. So what does that make all the people who refused to believe it originally?

Everyone is equal.

They're more like religious people. Both have a hard time accepting that the world is a chaotic and ultimately meaningless place so they need to find some way to deal with that fact.

Take everything with with grain of salt, whether it's the "official story" or "theory"...

would thinking the government inserting plutonium rods into childrens noses constitute a conspiracy theory?

would you think i am a funny 'tin foil hatter' if i believed this happened, in order for non-scientists to find out 'what would happen'?

is that your angle?

haha, sad part is I'm at a point where nothing would really surprise me...we see examples all the time of time, resources, etc spent on somewhat or completely ridiculous scientific pursuits...

...some a product of a bureaucrat or political or even more sinister motives.

I usually don't fall for too much of this stuff as I like to see the proof in the pudding, but in all honesty probably the only conspiracy i really think is somewhat legit is the idea of peak oil, that we've reach a point in our population, our over-production that's no longer sustainable based on how we transport, produce and create energy

I think some recent events point to the level of desperation for establishing some sort of oil reserves when the shit really hits the fan, having to search in more deep-sea areas as well because most of the easy to find, easy to get stuff has been tapped...just hard to adapt and change when so much of the world depends on it...

im talking about a 'theory' that has no scientific base. in order to be a 'scientist' one must train to be one.. anything done 'scientifically' by someone not recognizably trained is not science

at best it's torture

so, am i?

The one with a scientific mind questions everything... including that what he thinks he knows. That's the way to move forward. You examine the facts. You examine what you already know in light of new events. You ask yourself "how do i know what I know?", "How did I reach that conclusion?", "What counterarguments could be made and how do I counter those?" etc

The one with a scientific mind examines the facts and doesn't simply believe things because A said them and doesn't automatically dismiss things because B said them.

A lot of things that are now common knowledge were once considered conspiracy theories. I now have euros in my pocket. Yet a few decades ago, the whole idea of a single european currency was considered a conspiracy theory.

A lot of things that are normal to us right now would be totally impossible to believe and imagine if you told or showed them to an individual living in the early 1900s. A lot of things that seem strange or unbelievable to us now, were common practice less than 50 years ago. Some things that are fine to show on TV today would have gotten a TV station in a lot of trouble if they had shown it 30 years ago.

Question everything... including official stories, alternative theories, your own methodology,...
