...anyone use a netbook here?

Looking for a low consumption simple solution to run my weather stations. The "pc" needs a USB connection, simple processing, and WIFI connection to FTP to my sites and autotweet.

Seems a netbook would take less power (want it to be charged via solar) and give off less heat than a laptop and besides being cheap should last a long time too.

Anyone have any experience with net books?

Would also like to put on a simple webcam to take snapshots that refresh every few minutes (dynamic IP on one location). What dirt cheap/freeware can do this especially if I want to watermark the feed that gets FTPed to a web site?

Get one with the AMD C-50 processor, it's a dual core for netbooks. Also get something you can easily upgrade the ram on and they aren't so bad really. I can even photoshop on mine.. I have one of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834215174

I've had an asus eeepc for about 2 years now and love it. Battery lasts about 6 hours on a charge, very small and easy to bring with you. Definitely recommend it.

Have a look at the Raspery Pi thing - I saw somebody was doing exactly that and they cost something like $40

What he said
I love my ASUS 1215B which have better CPU(E-350), but C-50 has less power consumption.
