Swapping HDDs on a laptop
I have 320gb hard drive (separated into 2 portions, c: & d: ) on my laptop and I'm interested in swapping it with SSD. Is it possible to clone your HDD so I can have a flawless swap?

I have tried to do that with windows backup and recovery and it didn't work. My ssd drive is 240gb. Would be great if someoen could point me to the right direction without me having to swap hard drives too many times.

There are loads of cloning apps. I use SuperDuper on a mac, no idea what a good windows one is. Nero used to do one, not sure if it is any good.

I did it with Acronis. Just clone the drive. Make sure you leave lots of room on that SSD, you don't want to fill it up. You need to have AHCI enabled in your bios for the drive so Win 7 can use the Trim Command.

The last time I did this which was very recently, since I was moving to a WD drive, I used the free acronis software available from WD. Worked very, very well.

Honestly you're better of getting an External HD and just re-installing everything, much less of a headache if any problems arise from cloning. Also you'll have everything backed up in case of a crash.

I use Super-duper on Mac as well, Windows I always used Norton Ghost. Not sure if that's still the best or not.

We have an SSD drive in one of our notebooks.. (which has 2 drives.. using the SSD for the OS and shit and the 2nd internal for files and crap).. it really does make a HUGE difference. Especially with video editing and on the loading time for the OS and on proggies like Photoshop and shit. ;)
