Ever heard of P. Diddy's Son Getting A UCLA Scholarship?

(from http://www.bet.com/news/music/2012/0...p-to-ucla.html)

Justin Combs may be deserving of a UCLA scholarship. But if his family can afford it, would it be better for him to give up the scholarship and give it to someone who needed it more?

Quote:
Justin worked hard throughout high school and graduated with a 3.75 GPA while excelling as a defensive back on his football team. For his efforts, he was awarded a full scholarship last fall to attend UCLA this year. There was only one problem, however, according to certain residents of cash-strapped California ? Justin's last name is Combs.

Because the standout student athlete is the son of Sean ?Diddy? Combs, the ritzy hip hop mogul worth an estimated $550 million, some Californians are arguing that Justin doesn't need the scholarship, which is worth $54,000 in the first year, CNN reports. These residents say Justin should return the money and let his shot-caller father pick up the bill.

Representatives for the Combs family have yet to respond to the controversy, but UCLA put out a statement defending its decision to award the scholarship.

"Unlike need-based scholarships, athletic scholarships are awarded to students strictly on the basis of their athletic and academic ability, and not on a student's financial need," UCLA spokesman Ricardo Vazquez said.

Vazquez said that Justin's scholarship is being paid for entirely by Bruins ticket sales, corporate sponsorships and private donations and does not draw from state funds or the university's endowment.

When he announced his decision to attend UCLA last November, Justin said going to the school was a dream come true.

?Playing Division I football was a lifelong dream of mine, and through hard work I was able to achieve it,? he said.

So does he deserve to go to school for free? What do you think?

With that statement and reasoning I stand behind the school. He earned it. Also, I have a feeling that there may be a donation to UCLA.

Justin Combs is a pussy if he is going to UCLA instead of USC...

Hopefully he can sing and dance like his Puff Daddy, 'cuz the only way he is going to be entertaining in the NFL four years from now, will be by singing the National anthem.

He can suck my Diddy!

Seriously, how much pussy do you think the kid gets?

He accomplished something on his own and now doesn't deserve it? I think not.

Trust me though, Dad is going to be a big booster and that school will probably make more than that through fundraising.

No doubt the school will make a lot more than the $54,000 in donations from the Combs family over the years. Kid earned it, good on him. Could have took the easy way in life and spent his dads money like these stupid whores we see all over TV now.

That's the attitude of most of the u.s. now days. A false sense of entitlement, and envious of their neighbors. Most people would rather bitch and complain about other peoples success rather than trying to better themselves.

Wealthy people are wealthy for a reason, and it's not because they pass up opportunities to save money.

If the people complaining about this took more time to focus on their own individual lives, instead of trying to police and tell other people what to do, maybe they'd have a little more cash in their pockets too... 2 cents.

More blind hatred of the rich by people who obviously don't seem to understand or care about the context. Like Kristin said, the school explained it clearly and the kid earned his own way there and deserves it.

I'd bitch about the rich people that deliberately fuck everyone else to get their riches/power all day long, but this isn't remotely a case of that going on.

Exactly. Even if somebody has 10.000.000.000$ and is smart as hell to EARN his scholarship why should he be denied it because of his money? This is some poor mntality in play in OP. With that mentality you are doomed to be always poor.
