What's your opinion on .in domains?

I see namecheap has them on sale. Are they going to be like .info? Just thought of as a shitty extension.

My background might qualify my opinion as I still hold the record for highest public .in domain sale, Poker.in for $60,000 in 2007. Part of the problem with .in is that outside of India, it's never really caught on, even as a domain hack extension like .me has. Inside India, the registration fees for .in are really cheap, and the vast majority of people there are poor by 1st world standards, so they'd much sooner register something vs. buy something. .co doesn't have that many more registrations than .in afaik and yet it's managed to have a number of public sales above $60,000 whereas .in just never caught on as a prized extension of any sort.

Despite my one big sale and using a domain hack myself (Doma.in), I don't really like the extension and think if it ever will have a bright future, it'll be many years away.

I grabbed a .in domain from Namecheap and when I tried to whoisguard it I was told by their support that you can't use their whoisguard on it because .in extenstion aren't set up for it.

What name change? I've always been 'babydred' on this board. If I could change it to what I use on all of the other boards, I would.

It was a joke. Since you said they don't allow whoisguard.

Just put a fake name.

you dont want .in

you will be associated with india and this is not to your marketing advantage if you are not from india...

i block all e-mails from .in simply because, statistically speaking, they are not worth my time in return$

I don't associate extensions by country and most surfers don't either. If that were the case I'd associate .tv with Tel Aviv instead of television.

Why couldn't .in be used as a word in a domain hack like the .me extension? That's how I'd use it and most likely that's how surfers would read it. Not all surfers are webmasters or domain sellers/squatters. Something like, IknowIambutwhat.ru or ugotcum.in or even whywontshefuck.me could work if done right.

Now...how the SEs see it is a totally different story.
