Need your advice for video encoding

    Hi,

What software are you using to encode videos?

I'm currently using AVS video Converter and would like to know if some are better.

Also what resolution/bitrate are you using for streaming videos?

    I'm currently on 640x480 2000 mbps mp4 h264

Thanks for your help and idea

I use Handbrake for mp4 videos. 2 pass encoding and some tweaks in the advanced tab.

So long as the source footage is good, I can encode SD video (620x480) crystal clear at around 1800kbps. Sometimes less if there is not a lot of fast movement.

I've been playing with FFMPEG, but I can't get anywhere near the same quality with that as I can with Handbrake. I'm sure it can be done, I just don't know it well enough yet.

Coming up with optimum codecs is a never-ending challenge.

I use Apple Compressor, as part of Final Cut Studio, but Compressor is also available as a standalone for only about $50 (Free 30-day Trial too).

I had to tweak it quite a bit, and came up with a few workarounds to avoid having to use some of the pre-sets, and still I'm customizing my codecs to try and find the right balance between file size, speed, and quality.

I am creating 1500kbps as my middle setting (Hi-Med-Low), to stream h.264 mp4 files. (4000kbps is high, 750k is low)

          Good luck...

I've used them all on both pc & mac, and I now swear by Adobe's setup with Premiere & Media Encoder. Uses all cores without extended setups, easy to setup templates, overlays, and it's easy to setup multiple renders in dozens of formats without having to do more than a few clicks. Faster than FCP/Compressor kills Vegas, and AVS is a joke compared to it. Finally Adobe did something right.
