Miami Apartments

Hey Everyone.

I got a new job and will be moving to Miami in a couple of weeks.
I was just curious if anyone could recommend some apartments that are safe and close enough to Doral where I wont be in the car for an hour or more.

I want to spend around 800 - 1000 a month for a one bedroom or studio to start if possible or close to that. Every time I find one that looks nice, I go to apartmentratings.com and get nervous from all the negative reviews lol. I will be staying with family for now, probably will for close to a month until I am comfortable with driving around, the area, etc.

Sorry guys, I know this isn't related to adult but I know a few of you live in Miami. I also know that driving around certain areas ca be a pain and I don't know which areas are bad with that. I would appreciate any advice I can get.

Thanks.

Even if anyone can remember some apartments that they have driven past that are in a decent area by Doral that would be enough. It's just hurting me because I don't know what parts are good or bad. I hear like nw is good but sw is bad or some crap lmao. I don't know.

MIAMI apartments are so fucking cheap...

I was checking realtor and others and I can buy two apartments If I sold my apartment here in south america, incredible..

and 10 years ago, a 3 room apartment in miami was at least 5 times more expensive than a 3 room apartment here in my city.

Truly amazing how the world changed.

You might work in Doral, but why would you live there? If you don't live on or near the beach, you're missing out on the whole experience. Might as well be anywhere else.

Thanks Sper. If you are in the rental biz, maybe I can save your number and give you a call when I am closer to moving. I just want to be sure they like me before I get into a lease. No reaosn to waste your time until I am certain everything is good.

I don't live in Miami or really know the area. I have heard some horror stories from friends and family about getting around the city during the morning and evening rush. That is why I figured I would look close to the area where I would be working at. Doral seems like one of the closer places. I suppose Kendall would be ok as well.

That sucks. i don't need anything fancy, I just want to be able to live in a safe place. This fucking apartment review site, I look at the reviews and eople talk about their cars getting stolen and shit, lmao.

There was one apartment i saw called Pepper Cove. The images looked nice on the apt site I was on. Neighborhood looked ok on google street view. That damn rating site someone said they got broken into and their jewelry stolen. Someone elses car got jacked or something lmfao. Just horrible reviews anywhere I find lol.

These look really nice and had ok reviews:
http://www.northparkatscottcarver.com

The place is 15 miles away which doesn't sound bad but again, I hear from people 15 miami miles would take like an hour or something to get to work lol.

Everyone is in Brickell, Miami (over the bridge from downtown) now... Its the Manhattan of Miami (the commute form Brickell to Doral is 15-20minutes) You'll find a rental easy-- everyone out here is broke, living way over there means~! [Everyone's a Miami Vice Extra!] They just pay to look fancy!~ Dont be intimidated... as one of the Bosses of the city-- this place is for the birds! (We need casinos!) (and medical marijuana!)

Thanks for the info. Isn't Brickell super expensive?
The position pays around 50 a year. Ever since I left my moms house a long, long time ago, I have always been living with my gf. We now have a house where I am at now and a few pets. We don't think we will be able to sell the house for much because of the economy and the pet thing is going to be a bitch over there so I will be going alone, at least for a while, and well see what happens.

That being said, I asked a good friend that lives there for some general advice about living alone and he suggested I spend no more than 20% of my gross towards rent. If I go by his advice I think I can spend around 800 a month on rent. That's not really much for Miami, I will prob have to try to spend around 1k but I don't want to go too crazy. I still need to send her some money as well/bills/etc. That is where my price range came from. What do you guys think?

If you are willing to commute a little more get a one bedroom in Hallandale or Hollywood for $800-900 and then you will be next to the beach and 25 minutes from both South Beach and Fort Lauderdale.

traffic in South Florida can be a nightmare. Especially out east.

My boyfriend actually chose not to get a job in Doral last month because of the traffic. Funny thing is, his job now is about 15 miles away and takes him 1/2hr to get there.
Driving 30 miles to Doral to his previous job took him around 35 minutes on I-75/Turnpike

It really depends on what you want. Doral, and living inland isn't that exciting - it's also hotter in the summer. But it would be cheaper. As would living in Broward be but you'll have to drive.

I seriously doubt you can find a 1/1 on Brickell for $1000, the HOA fees alone in those buildings start at $500-800/month.

What Epitome said would be something I'd consider. If you don't mind the drive, Hallandale/Hollywood area would give you fairly easy access to the 821 and get you right down to Doral

We live on Miami Beach. My wife regularly commutes to Kendall and south Miami using the turnpike. There is a lot of traffic everywhere, so what? It's a fact of life. Miami is no different than any other city. It's not like you are going to get killed 15 minutes after you get here. The point is quality of life. Living in Doral or Kendall is fine if you like even more people and traffic. Especially if you speak Spanish. You can find a decent apartment for a decent price if you have a few weeks to learn the area. But if you live near where you work, you can ride a bike. Then you will be all set and you will quickly figure out that it sucks to live there. Good luck. You can watch re-runs of Miami Vice to see what you are missing.

I appreciate all of your input. My biggest thing is that I don't want to consistently be late to work because of traffic. If I had to get up at 6 to get in by 9 that would suck. The other main concern is I don't want to have my car stolen which was like on every apartment review i looked at lmao. I am not worried about Miami, just the 2 hour traffic jams lol. There were these cheap apartment on the beach, like west something that looked nice but I was told it was really really bad getting out of there in the morning. I had to pick up my sister at Miami beach once and the only reason we got through it at a reasonable pace is because my cousins driving is fucking insane lmao.

But I'm still happy to help, give me a call and I can tell you about the various areas and the good and bad things about them.

This is a good call. You can still be on the water (the intercoastal), and only 2 minutes from the beach, without having to actually cross a bridge everyday to get to the interstate.

Sorry about that.
It seems like a few people here dabble with real estate on the side and I assumed you may have had some rentals or something. I appreciate that very much.

I may give you a ring when I get out of work, after 5 if that is alright.

Thanks again

I stayed in Hollywood for a couple weeks this past winter, my dad is a snowbird in pembroke pines, so it was nice being near the beach in Hollywood, and being close to visit him. Plus the hollywood beach broadwalk was a nice place to visit.

We don't get our cars stolen that much. The traffic is not as bad as you are making it out to be. Any day of the week, I can get to downtown Miami from North Beach in 45 minutes. You should apparently try to live here with someone for a month or two before you sign a lease. I'm thinking whoever is counseling you is a little over the top. However, just to be on the safe side, you should get a gun. You don't want to be the only person here that is lacking a weapon. That said, be sure and try the Cuban coffee. It will help you get from point A to point B at the speed that you need.

I have a friend who had an apartment on the intercoastal in Hallandale a block from the water tower. It was 2007 and a decent one bedroom for $750/mo. Buildings pool was on the intercoastal and he just had to walk across A1A to be on the beach. 60 second walk.

I looked at condos in Miami about 3 months ago and was finding real nice places for sub $200k. The real estate market crashed down there pretty hard from what I heard. Half million $ places selling for 150-200k. Mortgage on 200k would be around the $700 a month mark with a 20% deposit over 20-25 years I think. Worth looking into if you plan on staying for 3+ years.

Plenty of good deals still around although the real estate market is finally getting back on it's feet here. This is Florida though, periodically, the market crashes because it is chock full of thieves, pirates and fraudsters. Not unlike porn.
