Content owners/producers, let's make some money

First of all, I'm new to GFY. However, at the beginning of 2011, I began working at Manwin as a software developer. Not so long ago, I decided to quit a Team Lead Software Developer role at Manwin and start my own venture. So I'm not new in the porn industry, specially the porn software industry.

During the last 6 months, I have been working on a software where Surfers/Models/Paysites/Producers create an account and share some of their work or update to the Surfers. These people will be able to upload videos in their account and share it to the public or only friends in their friends list.

The good part is that the people that uploads the content will be able to set the maximum download rate of their content. So, let's say that you want to promote a new scene of yours, you could upload the full scene in HD format and set the download rate to be 50kb/sec.

Then, if people wants to download faster, they would have to register at your paysite or buy fast bandwith on our site.

If someone buys a membership at your site, you would get 100% of the sale. No rev-share here. However, let's say bandwith buyer download your videos, you would get paid for it.

So, let's say someone pays X$ for 15GB of bandwith on our site. Let's say that they spend 5GB downloading your videos. You would get 33% of all profit made from selling this account.

I want to make this platform very clean. There would be no ads on the site itself, except for the promotion of the bandwith program. However, the site itself would be promoting people's pages, thus your content and paysites (where you get all refererred sales, like explained above).

Since people control how fast their content gets downloaded, since people control the visibility of their videos (public/friends only/private) and since you get all referred sales to your paysite, would any of you guys be interested in this kind of site?

Think of it like a mix of apple (for being clean), facebook (for the community aspect of the site) and youtube (for the video aspect of the site), but only for porn. I want to work with content owners here and share the profit with them.

I strongly believe that a platform like this would make good content stand out from bulk content, and make good content producers a lot of money with few amount of content. After all, this worked well in mainstream - and people socialize well in porn as well (the /r/gonewild subreddit works very well).

On most Tubes, the content owners shares the sales with the Tube owner using a rev-share model. If you read my model correctly, the money made from membership sales goes 100% to the paysite owner.

Before giving any links to the platform, I need to have some companies enlisted in the beta of the site, so that the site isn't empty at launch

sounds like a good idea - a legit file sharing site for porn. like everybody else with a good site idea, you need traffic. my concern is that you'll end up realizing the way to success is by allowing surfers or shady webmasters to upload anything they want.

I think connecting with models and actresses via Twitter is about as good as it gets when it comes to socializing with porn girls.

Manwin's toilet's situation? I was working at Manwin's Montreal office. I was working on the 4th floor and never heard about any problem with the toilets? What is that "issue" all about?

Traffic won't be a problem. I have a very good budget for the project. I don't want to allow shady webmasters to upload their tings. In fact, if someone upload a movie that gets DMCA'ed, all the money that movie made with the bandwith sales revenue will be given to the right owner of the content. This will be written in the TOS of the project.

As for the surfers uploading things, they will be allowed to upload their own porn. Have a look on reddit's subreddit: /r/gonewild . Those are all surfers sharing their own home-made porn. Surfers will be able to do that on the site. However, they will need to proof that this is their own porn by saying their username inside the video, just like gonewild does. Otherwise, the video never gets released to the public. So yes, Ill monitor all videos that goes thru the platform.

A lot of people do. Porn is getting more and more mainstream in a lot of countries, including Canada (province of Quebec at least). Most people don't want to spend money in porn because they fear that their credit card get over-charged. If you remove that risk and show people that there is trust-worthy companies, these surfers will buy from these companies.

Oh, and there is fans about everything. Sure, a lot of surfers won;t share their real name or picture as their avatar. However, they will create an account with a nickname and follow the porn they like.

I used to work in mainstream offices doing web programming and I personally have a network of friends and co-workers that would love to follow their favorite porn and share it in a social network. They don't want to share it with all their connections under their real name, but they will do it within their network that they know loves porn.

A lot of surfers wants to socialize with porn and if this happens, I strongly believe that the sales of porn would go high.

Apple sells overpriced hardware, and everyone knows it. Yet, people are still buying them because their product look awesome, their image is top-notch and they invested a lot in their brand. People LOVE that company, so they are more than happy to pay bug bucks for their product. This can happen in porn as well if surfers can follow companies, what they are up to and feel like they are friends with these companies.

I agree that some people do like to socialize while consuming porn, like on 4chan, I'm just having a hard time seeing why there needs to be a separate site for doing this.

What you're describing sounds like an amateur/homemade site, like take your pick, where there are porn actor members who are uploading their own homemade stuff?

We would be interested to test it out. We are doing well with similar business models for vod, streaming and ppd with others.

You are totally right. There will be a gamification system inside the website. Users will win badges to do different things on the website. Then, based on the badges of people, different offers or contests will be created. So, not only will we target people based on niche and geography, but we will also target people on how "invested" they are in the website.

I tried to push this idea at Manwin, but they just replied that they are investing money in buying current projects that currently makes money. They have no interest in investing money in a new innovative project.

First of all, I would like to say that I am no longer an employee at Manwin. This project is NOT affiliated with Manwin in any way. Second, I quit because I believe that working with other companies is the key in the future of porn.

Manwin is currently buying a lot of paysites and they rarely keep the team behind projects. They normally replace them with in-house people. The problem is that Montreal is not a huge city, so after a while, they have to hire not-so-skilled people to run projects that used to be run with skilled people. Just imagine what happens next.

I personally believe that artistic companies (content companies) cannot be bought like that and replaced that easily. They are the ones that master their fan base and I think that working with these companies to bring them the fans they need will be good for the surfers, companies and the distribution platform.

I personally don't believe in the Manwin's business plan in the long run. But yes, it works for the short term.

The exact percentage will be 50% of the profit (not revenue) of everything a surfer spends, in bandwith usage, on content. Of course, if your content is just amazing and it brings a lot to the platform, the % can be negociated in your favor. Private deals can be arranged, of course.

The platform will not be used to only follow models. You need to remember that it will be a content distribution platform where people can follow the content creator they like. COntent creators can be brands (Paysite network, dvd company), Product (DVD title chain, 1 specific paysite, a doll product), People (Actors/Actresses/Amateur/Cam girls).

The goal of this project is to let fans know when their favorite porn is out. Otherwise, if they want to simply jerk off quickly, they can still do it - nobody forces them to follow people, but the focus of the site will be on cool models/companies and not directly on free porn videos.

By the way, the whole application is built on RESTful API's (24 in total, as of now). So an API access will be given to developers as soon as the project goes in beta.
