What would you say to the new guy?

If some one came up to you and said they wanted to be an annual 6 figure affiliate from scratch in adult what would you say to them?

I would first ask their experience in selling anything online. How much technical skill they have in HTML, Wordpress, etc etc.

THEN I would say this:

Be prepared to work your ASS off, 7 days a week (yes SEVEN), minimum 10 hours a day (12-14 is more likely) and be prepared to hit several "walls" where you just cannot build another Blog or submit another gallery...

Press on.

Set financial timelines for yourself. meaning: am I making X amount by X time and month? If you are not moving towards that goal then it may be time to give it up and move on. In other words, if in eight months I'm not making X (be realistic) then maybe it's time to move on...

Be prepared to adapt and change and, just when you think something is running smoothly, "fix" what you never thought was broken. Grow and maintain good relationships, try and connect with other Webmasters (misery loves company) and most important of all:

Never, ever stop.

(95% of people will balk at much of the above, and even fewer will have the commitment to actually pull it off. But for those rare crazy few it can still work. Good luck!)

Earlier today someone hit me up asking random questions. He told me he was new and wants to break in. I'll help anyone, even if there is nothing it in for me.

What this industry is missing these days is friendship and helping each other out. Years ago I sent out a newsletter with gallery links, a friend of mine got the email and told me there issues, then spent the next hour with me on ICQ trying to help me figure it out. I miss those days.

From a blog post...

---

Pretty much everything that ails the online adult industry, or at least everything which cannot be directly attributed to a government regulation or some other type of outside interference, can be summed up in just one simple sentence so brace yourself because here it comes:

The vast majority of people working in the industry care very little about the quality of their product.

And that holds true for content producers, sponsors, and affiliates.

Seems too simple to be true but seriously, let's get real, how can one not assume that industry growth might slow down when a large majority of webmasters take more pride in their ability to mass produce a bunch of shitty sites in the hope that each will earn a buck or two rather than in their ability to build a quality website? How can one not assume that industry growth might even retract a bit when a large majority of producers approach the production of their content with that very same mindset? And how can one not assume that surfers might just try to find their shit for free because of how it took them 3 months to figure out how to cancel a stupid membership that they inadvertently purchased via a pre-checked cross sell?

With so many webmasters and so many producers and so many sponsors having similar mindsets for so many years, is it really that shocking that the adult internet has come to resemble Buñol right after La Tomatina, but before the clean up and with crap instead of tomatoes? I don't think it's the least bit shocking.

Local Adult Industry Webmaster Celebrating The Launch Of His 1000th Thumblogger Site

The bottom line is that sustained growth is simply not attainable in an industry where the desire of profit overwhelmingly supersedes the desire to be good. And by no means am I suggesting that everyone needs to go the starving artist route and completely ignore the profitability potential of their work. It's an important factor, a very important factor, it's just not the most important factor. I could go on and on to support the point, but bear in mind that many of the posts and articles on this website will address a variety of it's elements in one way or another so you'll just have to be patient.

I would tell him those with years of experience and knowledge are quitting.

Why tell him lies or encourage him to come into the business and take a slice of your cake?

Richard, only fools help people out to take their business away from them. Why don't you employ people to do the work?

They might leave and compete with me.

So why help some guy to come in and compete with you for no upside?

Because some people are just nice Paul.

I always help out anyone asking email/marketing questions.

Sharing information is a good thing to do. Helping strangers is a good thing to do.

Sadly, you have no help to give anyone anyway, so it's a moot point as far as you are concerned.

Nice!!!!!

This is business love, not a magic show. You don't have a lot of business to lose, so I would advise you not to teach anyone to take what little you have away from you.

misterpeabody is the most honest one here, beside me. This is business and the last thing I would of done is teach another person, I didn't employ, how to do what I did. Now I will because as I'm retired, it makes no difference.

Clearly an alien concept to you.

But then again, you have nothing to give anyone anyway. Imagine that, 30 years in an industry and you have nothing to say anyone is interested in.

Where's the ebook you lied about 2 years ago?

I rest my case.

Thanks. I'd rather take advice from DVTimes than you.

My blog, www.adultmarketing.co.uk has been going for years. All I do there is give away advice for free. And it has brought me more new business than anything else I do.

Giving away your content is the single best way to get new customers.

But all that sort of thinking is so so so far beyond you because you think the industry made more money before the internet. Fucking lol.

Funny thing is, if you posted saying you were going to give away content for free to the first x people that posted in a thread saying they liked your content, you would have absolutely no takers.

Prove me wrong.

Imagine making something so dreadful you can't even give it away for free.

Heheh. No wonder you're so angry and bitter.

I'm not new in the industry but new at promoting and recently I saw an affiliate program here offering some ressources to make money etc... So I contacted them (thru an IM) and they take forever to answer me to my questions. I'm looking to find way to make my days more lucratives and even program owner seem lazy to help out someone to promote their program and make money too...! Go figure...

This has been my experience as well. Affiliate managers are supposedly there to guide you, but it seems they're only interested in collecting commissions. Not once have I been given any truly valuable information on promoting a program... just the generic "build a blog" or "submit galleries". You'd think if I'm generating their paycheck, they'd be slightly more inclined... but no, they can't be bothered.

I would say that you aren't a new guy anymore. You seem to be looking for a magic solution. There isn't one. Lots of great advice has already been given to you throughout all of your threads. I'm not sure if you don't follow the advice, if you can't focus, or if you just aren't into this but you ask the same questions over and over again.

If this isn't working for you, you should really take a step back and look at how much time you are "investing" and consider trying something else to make extra cash if that's what you need.

Not trying to be a dick... this just isn't the answer for everyone. Don't force it if it's not working for you.

Many/most affiliate managers have never sent a click in their life. :-)

Thank you everyone for the contributions here!

Sly, I should have clarified that I was not referring to myself. Even tho I do not make close to 6figs in this I do not consider myself a noob. I agree with you. But I'm not complaining since most of it is made watching family guy on the couch. If I was a 6fig guy I would have still posted it bc I'm curious of what the people think.

You are right tho, it's important to be realistic about business and life to know when to quit or move fwd to make it bigger.

I've not even closely mastered the affiliate scene. I still wonder of its better to try and build a product versus pushing others. Eitherway, if I could do 8-10k a month with any of the models I'd be thrilled.

Against the masses... I still feel there is a piece of the pie to grab in the industry. It's just not as easy a it was probably. Had I started in early 2000's and actually did something over the first few years of posting here I might actually have made money!

Side note, markul, I like that sexgoesmobile in ur sig. I'm going to try that. But one question, why does it show 13,499 sales and only 818.17 in ur sig? That's a heck of a lot of sales for a lil money.

Why? There's a lot of people who are not in this industry that have work ethics that would smoke 99.9% of us easily. I know people who work in high ranking mainstream corporate jobs that would completely destroy us if they came to adult...

They'd likely bust out the door making $400k and we'd be asking them for advice after 1 month. LOL

You know how long it would take to explain everything?..

Edit: That would be impossible. The biggest reason why I can make a lot of money is because I take what I already know and think outside of the box. Doing everything that everyone already does might work for a bit when the technique is new but you have to learn how to constantly evolve and read code like it's a book..

I bet you'd see a substantial increase in sales if you linked your preview images directly to the tour instead of sending all of your pre-qualified traffic to FHG's.

Is this "thinking outside the box"? Looks like it's the same thing everyone else is doing.
