Tons of empty seats at London Olympic Venues

I know a bunch of UK webmasters and not one I've asked cares anything about London hosting the Olympics and by the empty seats it looks like it's more than adult webmasters who don't care.

what a waste of taxpayers money, not like London is a city that needed more exposure to be looked at as a world class city.

i am not interested in it.

yes its a waste of cash.

though the report says that the tickets went to sposers who have not used them.

anyway, i am glad its a disaster.

the fun thing is to read how many problems they have each day.

i think its great that with the 4 million security, somone just walked in and pretended to be part of the indean team. so all thaqt security and it does not work.

just hope it rains each day.

It's always the hospitality seats at events like this that end up empty as the people they are reserved for are too busy having champagne poured into them outside in a tent.

Wow some of you really don't get the worth to the world of the Olympics do you?

Unreal.

DV - you can't hold an event the size of this, or even a 100th the size of this for that matter, and not have problems on a daily basis. I challenge you to try though.

Rooting for the problems and being amused by then is what's lame guys.

I thought the opening ceremonies were well done, actually. Very nice comment on Britain and the UK as a whole.

Looking forward to today's events.

It's a pure waste of money. It took the people of Montreal 30 years to pay off the debt from the 1976 Games. The 2004 Games in Athens seriously worsened Greece's financial and economic situation. Beijing displaced 1.5 million people to host the 2008 Games. All for some mega vanity project.

There is a reason that most of the "sports" in the Olympics don't have regular TV coverage.

Most people couldn't care less about most of the "sports" in the Olympics.

Actually los angeles games was profitable so it's possible to make it work but yes in most cases it's a serious money lose which is why i think games should be regularly in countries which knows how to make money on it like usa or china. And who knows maybe London games will be profitable too considering all crap which they were doing.

To Expensive, if they put the train prices as "normal" instead of inflated then i might be bothered to go down. I have a model i'm shooting on firday getting the train from london to manchester ( 200 miles) her train ticket was £360 ($560 ), she is coming the night before now.

Rip off britian at its best

I think the problem is how excessive the organizers make it. I saw yesterday they had fences along the entire 200km bike rice.... Does that happen anywhere else? The riders participate in much smaller events with no fences... So there's an example of a gross exaggerance that wasn't really necessary. But they want to go all the way with security, for whatever reason. They make it more expensive than it needs to be.

I think a country needs to win the games and then go full frugal budget with it, to make a statement that it's supposed to be about the athletes and the competition, not a show of power, luxury and vanity to the world.

It's probably people thinking "I'll go later, there's two weeks of events."

Not sure if you can buy tickets online but I'm sure there are plenty of retards that maxed out credit cards thinking they could flip tickets in stubhub for a 3x profit

Why not when it's not your money.

The country is full of scrounging wankers like you that never contribute and are happy to see tax payers money get pissed up the wall. To be honest i would rather see the money get wasted on an event like this than see it spent on more benefit scrounging cunts.

Corporate sponsors and company buys, especially in a city like London with lots of HQs would create empty seats. Too bad they can't sell after the event starts to fill the seats

The thing about the Olympics, is that 90% of the sports are shit, and you'd never actually watch them on tv any other time if you were channel surfing...

Mutt, this is in no way directed at you.... I have no clue what your political affiliations are. I'm sure this post is a result of your observations and nothing more. I've noticed pretty much the same thing. The only beef I have with you is that you let "Cookie" disappear. She was hot!

But this whole "Olympic seats are empty" storyline is what Matt Drudge and his nimrods are trying to push into the "mainstream media" in an attempt to lessen Romney's gaffes. So we can all look back and say..."Mitt was right".

How much are tickets to each event? The world is in a depression. Only the 1% can afford it. First Lady looked good. Wonder how much that cost us tax payers?

I thought I saw a lot of empty seats during the opening ceremonies. I don't know if it was just that people were leaving because it was late or if the place really wasn't full.

It seems like the last few Olympics there have been stories about how tickets were very expensive and many events were way below capacity. If I remember right in the last winter Olympics they were even giving away tickets to some events just to fill the seats so it didn't look bad on TV.

There are loads of empty seats, because there are loads of tickets still for sale. Although the seats are the ones that were going for the premium prices. Sure if you want to go see female weight lifting you can pay £245 for the pleasure, not. Likewise there are plenty of seats still available for the closing ceremony, apart from the fact they are £995 and £1500. The bit about corporate tickets is a just a media dig, the reality is they don't have a price reduction for last minute purchases. You'll find pretty much all the £20 tickets are gone apart from a few odd sports at non-park locations

Absurdly high prices for events and threat of false flag attacks are keeping them away. Terrorists know they dont have to do squat US and certain allies will handle it for em.

Whenever tickets come up for sale on the official website they are oversubscribed by about two million, the demand is there, people from all around the country are going if they can get tickets, whatever the event, and any empty corporate seats are being offered to the forces and their families, to reward them. All the street events are jam-packed with spectators. The feel-good factor these games have generated has been brilliant, all the talk of banks, unemployment, Spain, American shootings, and Syria's in-fighting is bunched at the end of the news now. Best two weeks in probably a decade over here, and inspiring kids like never before to try sports; I've never seen so many families riding bikes around the streets at weekends. Even if the cost had been twice the amount, it would have been worth it, now having seen what it has done for the UK to cheer up a shitty year, and inspire the younger generation. Sometimes it is not all about money, it's the knock-on effect success can have.

I was watching the women's soccer event the other day where the US took on Canada with the winner going on to the gold medal. The lower level of the stadium was only about 70% full and the top two levels were empty. I guess that stadium is about two hours from London which might have had something to do with it, but I figured such a big game would have drawn a bigger crowd.

1.) Really? Who follows womens football? lol

2.) I think it was played at Old Trafford. That stadium holds 75811. LOL It is home to Man Utd. So if it was even 50% full that means 35000 people watched the game live.
Frankly I think that is pretty damn good.

3.) It was between Canada and the US. No home team interest.

4.) Yes , its a long way from London which I would suspect is where the Canadian and American fans who travelled made their base.

;-))

Most of the sports are crap - Xgames is way better and what the olympics should be in the modern world, seriously how are we pushing the human body to extremes with trampolining as a global sport. Give me the x-fighters anyday. Having said that, I have enjoyed the athletics which is the best part.

It's not that people don't want to be sitting in those seats. It's this:
