Some people do. When I was 13 I mailed some dude and told him that I wanted to buy his website for $40. He told me to shut the fuck up and never mail him again.

It's funny in the last 2 months I've emailed $XXX offers to buy 2 domains I wanted. They replied saying no, that they wanted to keep hold of the domains to develop them.

Both of them dropped which saved me about a grand.

I've picked up names that dropped. It took patience, but I got them.

There's one name I am eyeing, but the owner and I are still $600 apart on price.

I started with a $300 offer that I raised to $3,000, but he's holding out.

I'll wait until it's coming up for renewal before making another offer

Few years ago I got an offer for $50.
I responded with $7500.
They came back with I already bought another one but if your price ever lowers let me know.
I said probably not gonna happen but good luck with your project.
Week later sold.

Your site is likely one of 10,000 or 100,000 that got that email and even if the buyer only gets 1% to say yes, he walks away with a large amount of new domains at a very low price.

Yes they do, and they especially do if you show you are serious and but all other extensions. Virtually pigeonholes them into wanting to make a deal.

Not sure if I follow you.. why wouldn't people reply to 50$ offer if they think their domain is worth 50$ or less?
I mean it depends on the value of the domain.

Why not? No reply may not result in a sale, no benefit. If the domain is for sale, a reply (high counter) could be beneficial.

To be fair though, Mr Zuckerberg made the right call.
