Watched CLOUD ATLAS last night...

...and still confused.

Not sure how I persevered through nearly 3 hours - and by the end I was still asking myself, "What did I just watch?"

Anyone else seen it yet?

Thoughts?

My wife and I saw it.

I think they were trying to be "too deep" with their analysis of how the life cycle works.
That broken English one of Tom Hanks' characters used was annoying and pretty unnecessary.
Still cant understand why they HAVE TO include gay characters in everything,

Overall it was just a movie. If a movie was good, we talk about it on the way home - We talked about other stuff instead.

I thought it was very strange, which I usually don't like, but I did enjoy it. And I was confused throughout a lot of the movie. Typically when I'm confused, I stop watching or I leave. But there was something about this confusion that kept me hanging on.

Perfect way of putting it, yeah...I agree.

The jibberish language Hank's character used was ridiculous, and the gay theme was annoying (nothing against gays...it just seemed unnecessary to the movie).

The only good reviews I've read of it so far seem to come from pseudo-intellectuals who see the movie as an excuse to look down their noses at folks who didn't enjoy or understand the movie.

I couldn't resist calling out, "Soylent green...is PEOPLE!" at the scene where the naked asians were hanging upside down in the processing plant.

With the exception of Joe vs. The Volcano - I've hardly seen a Tom Hanks movie I didn't enjoy...so I kept watching the movie expecting something to finally make sense towards the end.

Maybe my expectations were too high...thinking it'd be a Forrest Gump epic or similiar. I was left wondering why Hanks was even involved in it. It didn't seem like his kind of movie at all IMO.

You mentioned that you thought the gay aspect was unnecessary and strange. I haven't read the book, but I'm guessing it's in there. It probably had more relevance in the book.

Ah, ok.

Yeah, it may have been an element of the original book...and maybe in that context it was relevant. For me, it just seemed unnecessary on the screen - as if they were pandering to the artsy/fartsy gay community (typical film festival people...apparently it originally premiered at TIFF - Toronto International Film Festival).
