My Uncle Had An Accident On His Motorbike Today

He's okay. Nothing life threatening, but a rather serious break to his leg.

Been a few hours worrying if he was okay, but news finally travelled down the family grape vine. Turns out, he was on his way to his girlfriend's house, and a cow walked out onto the road (he lives a fair bit away from the city, as you may have guessed). He didn't run right into it, but instead, sort of brushed against it.

So all of a sudden, he's got this massive pain in his leg, and he looks down. Halfway between his knee and his ankle, his leg is bent, so that his foot is almost at his knee. He's still on the bike, and he can't stop, 'cause if he does bring the bike to a stand still, he won't be able to get off without the bike falling on top of him (it's a pretty triumph, not sure what size, but it's a bloody heavy bike).

So he's got to ride the rest of the way to his girlfriend's house, but first, he turns to check on the cow, and it's gone. So obviously it didn't come off too badly. So he rides the rest of the way to his gf's house (6 kilometres) and she is out in the front yard, and he has to ride past about 3 or 4 times to tell her to get rotten (one of his mates) to help him stop the bike, and they manage to get him off.

So he's going to need surgery, and metal plates, and all that shit. Was pretty scary for a while when nobody knew what was going on. So yes, dramatic day.

Hehe, the bike is okay. Like i said, he didn't come off when he hit the cow. Not sure what kind of bike it is. All i know is that it's a Triumph and that it's 3 years old. I don't know much of anything about bikes.

Woah...

The minute I saw my leg broken like that I would have freaked out like a bitch and probably fell off the bike heh...

I broke my arm like that once skateboarding... almost a compound fracture (the doc was suprised the bone didn't come out of my forearm).

Anyway, the morphine was great but it wore off before they came to set my arm back into place...

needless to say, it was VERY painful

Bwahahaha! You don't know Australia very well!

I doubt any motorcycle riding bloke with a mate named "Rotten" will be running off to some fancy lawyer looking to sue some farmer with a cow on the loose!

Things don't really work that way here. I'm sure his vehicle insurance will cover his medical bills etc.

Here in Australia that's just called a bit of bloody bad luck!

Hope he not laid up too long!

Ouch! Sorry to hear that... I've been on a bike only a couple of times (With Tanker & Steve...lol) and I was very happy to get off alive...They didn't drive like maniacs, but I just felt I had no protection if we got hit by a car!
