Sending DMCA's Thru Google...

Any worthy news on this subject?

Will site owners take notice and stop adding infringing content?

How many notices to Google before they start to penalize the site?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

So far as I'm aware, Google has not released any statements that provided any details on how the penalizing of sites works beyond what they posted to their "Inside Search" blog back in August.

I'd say that regardless of whether Google is actively punishing sites, it's worth sending Google notices to get them to remove links to offending files/sites from their SERPS. We've been hitting them pretty steady with notices from DMCA Force for a while now, and it's definitely improving things for our clients; less competition in the SERPS from pirates giving away what you're trying to sell can't be a bad thing.

I cc Google on my DMCA's for good measure. The more negative attention these thieves get helps the fight.

I don't care if they ignore them. Sending out DMCA's a stupid game we have to play until laws change and the only way that's going to happen is if people start seeing it as a big issue.

There's also the problem of people abusing the DMCA process if google makes it a factor in rankings. The sheer amount of DMCA's being sent out every day is impossible for them to verify if the claims are legit or not.

I've had a program DMCA google only my sites for using his promo content to promote his site with no warning or message from him to me personally. If that had any impact on my site, I'd be pissed.

Always report a site to Google.

They announced their intentions to penalize and they always exclude Youtube. They don't allow Youtube URLS to be submitted for search de-listing and instead refer you to Youtube directly. Ultimately, it still gets de-listed, just without a notice.

There's a huge difference between Youtube and a porn tube so you can't compare them effectively. Youtube's business model isn't based on stealing content to sell ads and hide behind DMCA.
