Strong earthquake strikes off northeastern Japan
GFY doesn't have many Japanese members, but there are a few, so best wishes to you all! Though 7.3 is just a small tremor for you guys
![]() Strong earthquake strikes off northeastern Japan http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/story/2...arthquake.html "A strong earthquake struck Friday off the coast of northeastern Japan in the same region that was hit by a massive earthquake and tsunami in March 2011. Authorities issued a warning of a possible tsunami. The Japan Meteorological Agency said the earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 7.3 and struck in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Miyagi prefecture at 5:18 p.m. local time. The epicentre was 10 kilometres beneath the seabed. After the quake, which caused buildings in Tokyo to sway for at least several minutes, authorities issued a warning that a tsunami potentially as high as two metres could hit. Ishinomaki, a city in Miyagi, reported that a tsunami of 1 metre hit at 6:02 p.m. The West Coast/Alaska Tsunami Warning Center said there was no tsunami danger for British Columbia, Alaska, Washington state, Oregon and California. Miyagi police said there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the quake or tsunami, although traffic was being stopped in some places to check on roads. Coastal residents urged to flee NHK television broke off regular programming to warn that a strong quake was due to hit shortly before the earthquake struck. Afterward, the announcer repeatedly urged all near the coast to flee to higher ground. Buildings in Tokyo swayed for at least several minutes. The magnitude-9.0 earthquake and ensuing tsunami that slammed into northeastern Japan on March 11, 2011, killed or left missing some 19,000 people, devastating much of the coast. All but two of Japan's nuclear plants were shut down for checks after the earthquake and tsunami caused meltdowns at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant in the worst nuclear disaster since the 1986 Chornobyl disaster. Immediately following Friday's quake, there were no problems at any of the nuclear plants operated by Fukushima Daiichi operator Tokyo Electric Power Co., said a TEPCO spokesman, Takeo Iwamoto."

Thanks for the post. Saw that. Family felt that. They live pretty far inland and it hit them a bit. A place so far impenetrable, in the mountains.
Interesting thing, a week or so ago, fisherman reported seeing deep ocean octopi up on the shore and bay areas around Tokyo. Scientists have learned it is a precursor to all hell braking lose when deep ocean animals come towards land. Glad to see the Octopi had their shit straight. |

![]() That's pretty incredible really, that some animals / sea creatures can sense something like this before it happens. Humans have so much to learn. |

I was in NZ and we had a 7.1 - It was on the other side of the island but scared the fuck out of me.
I phoned everyone I know and they where all - 'Fuck off you lunatic its 3 in the morning'.... Some people have no sense of drama.

The Japanese in Japan will feel the earthquake. The Japanese outside of Japan will not. Buildings in Tokyo should be saved from major storms. It’s always good to have more ways of predicting earthquakes, tsunamis, waves and storms. It would be an improvement for spokespersons to speak long before the disaster to warn people earlier.

what an empty statement.. we have never ceased being a learning species, not ever in human history. Pretending that we will one day know EVERYTHING about everything is truly foolish.

He's talking about the perception they have, their senses they use. Most animals know water or a fire is a danger & shall move the opposite direction well before humans smell or see it coming. We can have this same perception, aslong as we slow down & start taking more awareness with nature ![]()

Was interesting watching this on the news today. People in shops not really batting am eyelid while it was happening. I can imagine if an earthquake like that happened here. We'd have shitloads of people on tv with their amazing 'Survival' stories...

If you wish to heighten any perception you can. Blind people have better smell & hearing than those not with the disability. Also you can find trained persons, even yourself Choopa, if correct, you do martial arts, your reactions should be 10 fold on others not trained. I believe we all have a kind of telepathic connection, we only use 20% of our brains, if that ![]()
