take it apart asap and clean it. Soda eats at the leads and acts as a conductor.

I know someone who did this, except with orange juice.

Take it apart, clean the inside with Acetone.

Put it back together.

Now throw it out your car window. Then take it back to Best Buy and have it replaced under the extended warranty plan that they sold to you when you bought it.

Believe it or not. After 15 hours of not turning on. It turned on. And is running flawless.

Why would any warranty cover that? If you throw it its not a warranty issue (not a problem of product, problem of you throwing it)

You obviously are not familiar with the expensive Best Buy replacement gaurantee.

Sucks for them because of abuse... You buy a computer, than throw it out of the window after a year or 2 (depending on when the warranty ends) and get money back? And then do it over again? Almost free computers?

No, don't use Acetone. Acetone can damage some of the parts.

Take it to Apple instead. They've seen it all and will know what to do.

Im a certified Apple tech and isopropyl alchohol wipes are the best thing to use to clean the internal components.

http://www.johnbarry.com.au/products...-alcohol-wipes

Once the spill happened you should not have turned it on. You've now increased the likelihood of things randomly shorting out in the future. The internal components are probably already corroding. You'll probably start to notice lots of unusual behaviour in the short to mid term as the corrosion gets worse and worse.

The steps to take after a liquid spill.

Immediately unplug the power and remove the battery. Under no circumstances try to power it on.

Take it to a tech so that they can pull the machine apart and clean and dry each component individually. This is labour intensive so expect to pay.

After it's properly cleaned and dried the tech will test it to see if it will power on. If it works again you will be able to force some more life out of the machine but don't ever rely on it lasting forever or always being reliable. You spilt liquid on and in it so there could be lots of invisible damage regardless of how well it was cleaned.

You have to unpack it completely and clean it with light spirit .. Charge your battery from another laptop if possible .. Then retry .. It may work .. All the best

Quote for truth.

Also, secondary effect is if power was applied at the time of incident (or the next time power is applied if it was not powered at time of incident) you run a very very high risk of damaging components when the current conducts to places it's not supposed to go unless you thoroughly clean it immediately after incident.

Same reason a cellphone may still turn on after it's been wet then mysteriously stop working a day or two later. Components corrode and get voltage/current in places it's not supposed to be. Sort of like applying a 9-volt battery to a Nintendo cartridge pins. Fries it.

Putting the circuit board through a quick dunk of 90% isopropyl (or methyl hydrate) is a good idea.. but very quick.. and dry it fast!
