I've been saying the same thing all along.... All of these crimes have one thing in common - someone who is mentally ill. We need to identify and restrict those with mental illness - and also anger management problems - from having firearms. It's that simple. If you have an immediate family member or someone in your household who has a problem with mental illness, you cannot have firearms. It's that simple.

I love this! Yes, I want my kid's 90 lbs soaking wet timid teacher to be packing.

And of course I want nothing more than to have my 12 year old grade school student carrying firearms in the presence of my child the entire time they are at school. Sounds like a wonderful idea.

You could in theory arm the kids in a safe manner if the caliber was low enough. Do it so that one shot couldn't do much harm, but a whole classroom of 20-30 opening fire would take the gunman down.

You assume everyone you give a gun to would shoot it. I know everyone here is Rambo but there are people who shoot great at the range and then freeze when put in a real situation. Shooting a target and shooting a person are two very different things.
That's why soldiers go to boot camp, they dont just dont hand them a rifle and say shoot.

There are more restrictions on getting a drivers license than there are owning a firearm.

Yeah, it does stink of big brother. We already maintain databases of people who can legally drive cars, why not just expand that list?

I don't see the need for anyone to own an assault rifle. It blows me away that I am allowed to have an AR15 which is really the same exact rifle I trained with in the Marines. Stunning.
