CAPTCHA on an Ad Banner

Surfers instinctively head towards a CAPTCHA while trying to avoid all the ads, I suspect putting a CAPTCHA on an advert would allow it to circumvent the surfer's defense mechanisms, thereby increasing the click-thru numbers, unless everyone starts doing it

Maybe someone's already onto this, but I haven't encountered it myself.

Any GFYers tried it?

Sounds like another deceptive/misleading ploy to rook the surfer into going somewhere they didn't intend to.

I dunno - part of the reason the industry is in the state its in is due to surfer mistrust. This doesn't sound like a way of regaining that trust.

It could be used deceptively by the wrong people, but it could be used honestly too

Its not retarded .. it should filter a good percentage ( 65% +) of bogus clicks.

Who knows testing is needed!

Not the best idea i've ever heard to be honest. Sure - you'll get clicks, but none of that traffic will be productive because it wasn't expecting to go to your site. You want to make money, not "get clicks"

I'd rather have 100 clicks that intended to go to my site than 100,000 that didn't.

never heard of stuff like using CAPTCHA for this purpose. But why not just try something new and if it works. Wouldn't be the first traffic/conversion wonder in the biz. In these hard times, just try everything to improve your business.

While i'd normally agree "try new things and see what works", in this case this sounds like it would be akin to runnign a popunder for an online store selling cloths for infants in the hope that someone while browsing your tube site happens to also need to buy baby cloths

10k UV of targetted is gold, 10k UV of untargetted won't sell one damned thing.

I agree that some people will misuse it, however I would only ever want it to be used as an honest way for increasing ad click-thru. E.G. instead of a banner saying "Play Strip Poker" it would say "Enter both words below for a free game of strip poker"
