I'm a die-hard Fringe fan and I have seen every episode. Last nights was good, but not great. The ending was expected, and the very last scene, the "Tulip", was interesting but flawed.

In a second season Fringe, a character played by Peter Weller appears on a train, and the show gets caught in a time-loop like Groundhog day. Some fun things happen and in the end the break the loop with Peter Weller's character supposedly dying, but he sends Dr. Bishop a letter with the drawing of the Tulip inside to let him know he's ok. The problem is that when they break out of the time loop, no one has any memory of it happening, so Dr. Bishop is kinda sorta confused as to where the Tulip came from.

Fast-forward to last night, Dr. Bishop mails the tulip to his son, Peter. As the whole last season "never happened" because time has been reset, Peter too is confused (or should be confused) by the Tulip.

It basically says that even though time has been reset and Walter is gone (into the future and "dead"), that he is either "back here", or in an alternate universe but in "this time", or he found a way to send the letter back in time to Peter, or he knew about everything in advance and sent that letter just a few days ago.

It makes no sense to the character of Peter, but it means everything to the fans of the show. Walter is just being Walter, somewhere.

I'm now suddenly a little sad....

A white tulip was once mentioned by Walter as the specific sign he'd asked for from God, letting him know that he's forgiven for screwing up the universe. Maybe, somehow, Peter will know that Walter has finally made his peace with God by setting everything straight again. Who knows.

Donny you are right. I found the episode on Netflix (called "white Tulip", duh).

Dr. Bishop warns the time traveller, Peck (Peter Weller), who is trying to travel back in time to save his girlfriend, that it is a big mistake. While trying to talk him out of it, Bishop reveals that it has cost him his sanity trying to cope with the time travel mistake he made (when taking his son Peter, from Universe B ("over there")), back to Universe Prime. He says he "asked god for proof of forgiveness - a white tulip".

So after Peck disappears from this time line (and now Dr. Bishop has never met Peck), Bishop receives a white tulip in the mail, sent from Peck's friend at the University after she followed instructions to send that letter on that specific date. Dr. Bishop sees the white tulip as a message from god that he is forgiven.

At this point, I assume Dr Bishop never mentions this to Peter, but maybe I missed it.

The very last scene of the last episode, Peter receives the White Tulip, but this time it is addressed from Walter (not Peck) to Peter.

If Peter never saw the White Tulip, or was never told the story by Walter, then he can't understand the significance?

The very very very last scene, Peter looks up and into the camera, with a stunned look on his face - as if he knows. Does he?

(GAWD I LOVE FRINGE!)

By the way, did anyone notice this?

A final message to the fans maybe? (I'd like to think so)
