Can Google Turn On and Off Good Traffic?

For the last few months I have been analyzing my Google traffic and it certainly seems that they send different traffic referrals on different days.
For example, One day I will receive 1000 uniques from 70% Grade A traffic then the next 30-40%.

Of course SERPS change daily but the rankings (from my POV) don't move however the quality of the traffic I see does.

So can and does Google send different traffic as and when it likes?

I mean does it send good traffic for 14 days and then shit traffic for 14 days.. or whatever..

How would they send "good traffic" or "shit traffic" as you put it? Google is listing your site in results for search terms. This isn't like an adult traffic broker where you have no f-ing clue where such traffic originates - these are surfers searching for topics of interest.

It's possible that in natural Google fluctuations, your site does better with certain keywords so when those are ascendant your conversions increase (and vice versa) but I'm guessing what you're seeing is actually just normal statistical variation.

The moral of the story IMO is: don't pay attention to daily stats, even weekly is pushing it. You'll get a much better big picture with monthly increments. Why so many webmasters still obssess over short-term variations is a mystery to me - surely by now we're all experienced enough to know those rarely matter?

with respect, I disagree.

Day 1, I can check my stats and I will see 70%-90% referrals from Google.com /.co.uk

Then the next day I will recieve the majority of referrals from Google.se / .tr / .ve / .pk

It doesn't really matter if this is based on daily or monthly, the point is that Google sends more traffic from certain domains on one day and even more traffic from other G domains the next.
This is still true even if you only check your stats monthly. although you may not notice the changes.

Are you verifying that the traffic is coming from the regular search results and not something like the language translate pages? I know it sounds weird but for whatever reason I often notice massive hits from the translate pages. Far beyond what would be normal with real people translating pages. I suspect it might be a type of bot/scraper technique? If you get hit every once in a while by some crap like this it might explain it. Certain stats programs might count this as regular SE traffic.

Example: http://translate.google.com/translat...fy.com&act=url

Notice the referrer will be from *.google.com or such.

It's not bot traffic and it's not from translate results.

Translate results are shown separately, the results I see are over the last 3 months and are direct from the Google home page of each regional site.

Ohh, I see - by "shit traffic" you mean country-specific non-English Google pages. You didn't specify that in the OP, I thought you were speaking strictly from a conversion ratio viewpoint.

But yeah. If you are indeed getting fluctuations like that in your Google regional traffic, that is unusual behavior. My guess - like signupdammit's - is some kind of arcane bot or other automated 3rd party effect. My regional G traffic is steady, proportionally speaking.
