i always get a chuckle out of reviews like these, the corvette wins the competition but all the reviewers pick the 458 as the car they'd buy.

just like on top gear:

it's a brilliant car!

would you buy it?

no!

umm, no, i saw everything- a $120,000 overpriced american car vs. a $220,000 overpriced italian job, so what.

just like 1 of the reviewers said, if you have 120 grand to drop on a fukn vette, you prolly have enough to get the 458.

Not true. I could go down to the chevy dealer right now and get a corvette financed.
My payments would be around $2,000 a month. Then the insurance would hurt.

With the Ferrari...I would have to get financed an extra 200 grand (it's 340,000).
And the insurance on it would bankrupt me. lol

out of context. i was replying to another comment.

but nevertheless, the note on the ferrari would be under $1000 more so it's $2000 a month for a vette v $3000 a month for a 458.

if you want to extend yourself on a supercar loan, i'd suggest doing so with the 458.

also, you might want to take that argument up with the road and track tester, it was his comment, i c&p'ed it/

Yeah, but I already owned a vette. I know the insurance on that one...it sucked! lol

I'm sure that insuring the Ferrari would be a nightmare of super high insurance payments.

Would be cool to drive around in though.

Then I would be a poser. No fucking way I'd go pay $340,000 in cash (even if I had that much money sitting around). I'd finance it (especially with todays super low finance rates) and spend my money on other things in life.

Wouldn't you?

It's all about impression. No one is really impressed by a Corvette except for sixteen year old school girls.

I see your point, but it's not like the Vette is $50k. It's a $100k plus car.

If you own a $340,000 car and you aren't worth at least 10x that much, liquid, you have no business taking on a vehicle like that

no, it's actually because these are not legitimate, unbiased reviews, they are for selling magazines/tv shows/entertainment purposes only.

I like the vette myself and will get another one.. . don't really care who is impressed or not to be honest about it... then again I'm a canyon driver... so I like sleek fast cars that corner and are fun to drive.... and you're trying to be insulting again... really Richard try and grow a up a bit will ya?

You're saying I need to have 3.4 million in cash on me to have any right to own that car?

Okay.

I'm not Sheik Ali Baba of an oil rich nation or anything...but I own a $720,000 home that I financed. And I don't have 7.2 million dollars sitting around in cash (liquid).

I don't know why you think the way you do. Sounds like you're pretty frugal. Me? You only live one time. I worked hard for what I have, and it took time and effort to attain the kind of credit and collateral and ability to pay off the things I want out of life.

exactly. some people take Life, let alone silly webmaster boards waaaay to serious. On a side note, I had the Z06, suped it up to 740hp and had a blast for a couple of years. My Neighbor had a Ferrari 612 at the same time and got rid of it after 3 months. Didn't like it. Go figure, to each his own.

Plus the ZR1 gets phenomenally incredible gas mileage.

In Schwarzenegger's new movie 'The Last Stand' - the 'vette can go 400miles from Vegas to the Mexican border at 200mph on ONE TANK OF GAS!!

Trouble was...the guy in the movie kept the hammer down all the way...but they never showed him refueling.

The whole movie was a suspension of disbelief anyways.

Ferrari make about 5000 cars a year against 35000 corvettes being built. Exclusivity will have a large bearing on the Ferrari selling price but Chevrolet are going to have an advantage in squashing their suppliers to make the parts cheaper because of the volume.

If you have an ego and like attention, drive a Ferrari. You can pull up to a group of teenage girls and command one of them to get in, there's a fair chance one of them will.

It's the same thing with a young guy that's handsome and in shape picking up a middle aged woman, it can be done in 10-15 minutes. i.e. convince her to have sex with him.

Corvettes are great but you see them so much on the road that it doesn't have much allure.

One is a mass produced Chevy and the other is a hand made limited edition race car. Obviously the Ferrari will very likely be worth way more down the line as well. No offense to Corvette lovers but these are two different classes of cars.

If you "buy" a car that costs half as much as your home, that makes no sense to me either. I'm hardly frugal but I also know how much it costs to maintain a Ferrari if you actually plan on driving more than a couple hundred miles per month. Thousands upon thousands for a tune up and a brake job? Unless you are very wealthy, thats going to sting every single time.

A $340k car is for somebody with vast sums of wealth (multi-millions liquid), not a guy making around 250k net a year and sitting on a mil or 2 (for example)

Comparing a home to a Ferarri is silly.

Just curious.
125k vs 350k - ferrari cost 185% more, but if you pay monthly it comes out to only 50% more (2000$ vs 3000$)?

again, that's because chevy designs, builds, and markets the car in the same category as ferrari.

there are many finance calculators online, i used one and plugged in accurate #s for a 458- $250,000 base.

that's a weird concept that I'm not really picking up ... the vette is marketed to the 'successful plumber' as everyman's race car...not to sure that's what the ferrari is marked to...

the vette has never been anything more than what it is... a FUCKING fast and fun everyday driver... for the average guy with a decent job... it's never been anything else...

it's only the America Haters, ford weinnes and fucking guys that can't afforded either car that compare the vette to italian steel and then laugh about what a piece of shit a vette is... the vette is an awesome fucking car...

you can't see that the zr-1 is designed, built, and marketed to compete for sales in the super car category?

hasn't the vette won lemans like 7 times since 2000?
Would not chevy want to show vette as very similar to ferrari for a fraction of cost? Maybe thats what he meant when he said that chevy markets it in same category as ferrari.

The only real reason you buy a Ferrari over a Corvette is because you can.

"We set out to build a world-challenging sports car with design, refinement, efficiency and drive engagement that is second to none," declared Tadge Juechter, the program’s chief designer"

made a mistake, vette has not won le mans... looks like I had races mixed up...

In total, Corvette Racing's C5-Rs would earn 31 class victories in the American Le Mans Series, three class wins at Le Mans, and one overall victory at Daytona.

hot on the heels of the announcement that Cadillac would be moving their brand upmarket to compete more directly with their German rivals, Chevrolet has now announced that the next generation of the Corvette will be a closer rival to cars from Ferrari and Porsche. The seventh generation of the Corvette is due to make its first public appearance in January at the Detroit Auto Show, ahead of going on sale for the 2014 model year.

maybe, not so sure I could run a Ferrari down a dirt road like I did with the vette... although I can't afford a Ferrari right now so I can't really say.. think if I had the funds for that I would just get a vette and a phantom

nevertheless, the car is designed, built and marketed to compete for sales against other super cars in the super car segment.

The perception of the Vette is what will keep it from ever commanding Ferrari or Lambo prices. Unless you're the Stig, you'll never get close to the potential of a corvette on the track.

I can't imagine that to be honest... here is my confusion about le mans...

Given today's very-reliable prototype cars, there is nearly no chance a GT car (either Pro or Amateur) is ever going to outright win LeMans. It just can't happen. The speed differentials between the classes is almost laughable.

Like it or not, LeMans is 4 races not 1. There are 4 classes, with cars in each vying for the podium in their class. That's right. Each class gets a podium with a celebration of the first 3 places. And in this case Corvette took top honors in GT Pro. A privateer in a Corvette took top honors in GT Am, as well, which was a nice touch.

So, yes, Audi won their class, which happens to also be the fastest class in the race. Corvette won their class which isn't the fastest in the race.
