So, is this Fifty Shades of Grey series of books a good read for a guy?

I've been hearing about these books, mostly from about every female I know on the planet. It's like in the past half year or so they are required reading for every woman out there.

My brother is down in Cabo right now and informs me that every woman there is reading these books as well.

Has the whole world gone mad? :D

Anyway a friend of mine (female of course) just sent me the trilogy of books for my 50th birthday. 50 Shades, 50 years old. Is she just trying to be funny?

I guess what I'm saying is, since I don't know any guys who've read them, are there any here who have? And are they worth reading or should I pass them along to some woman who hasn't read them yet? (Assuming I can find one)

I'm sortof flabbergasted you would even ask this.

You can only read these books if you have a vagina, if you read them otherwise be assured you will grow one.

Just asking this question puts you in the ambivalent sex category IMO.

But at 50 you can do whatever you want. If you really want a review by a man, ask Sally Rand.

The problem with all that is that I simply haven't paid enough attention to know if these are vagina bibles or not.

I guess I have my answer.

My girlfriend started reading the first one, got about halfway through it and stopped. She said the writing was so bad and the story was so lame that she just couldn't go on with them. Of course a few of her friends read them and loved them.

Maybe I got the link from here, but somehow I got a link to a review of one of the chapters where the review ripped the writing to shreds. It was quite fucking hilarious. The blog was going chapter by chapter and reviewing/analyzing the whole book.

I've not read it - but the wife has. And from what she tells me, it's merely softcore bdsm done by someone who fantasizes what it's probably like...rather than experienced it for themselves.

For those of us already in the alternative lifestyle...the story sounded rather sanitized - like a Reader's Digest interpretation of bdsm/submission.

I forgot to say careful. Just admitting that here could get your heterosexuality called into question by many in this thread. Gay by association.

My wife is on the third book in the series... she said this: "I hate this bitch!". I asked her why she is reading the book and she said "I have to know how it ends!".

If you want to read good erotica, don't read 50 Shades. It is shit.

Try anything Violet Blue has edited or written. Some great stuff there.

I read the first one as I like knowing what women are getting off on. The books are really badly written but every woman in the world is reading so why not see what they think is fun in the bedroom when the whips and chains come out?

I was sort of surprised as I am not a fan of pain but it seems most women are not against it.

I don't understand people - do you want to read about having sex or just have it already.

I recently surprised to learn that some of my "non adult friends" are a lot more kinkier than we had expected.... Good for them.

I have long said that the perversions of society are taking place in our neighbor's, friend's and co-worker's bedrooms.

What surprises me is that my fellow man is/are surprised when they find out women have fantasies just like we do.

That's how they got me. They are poorly written, and started life as crappy Twilight fan fiction - I know, like there's some other type, right?. That should tell you all you need to know about the quality.

If you're looking for something interesting to read, I might suggest the Sleeping Beauty trilogy that Anne Rice wrote as A. N. Roquelaure. If you like books on tape, at least one of them is read by Elizabeth Montgomery

I've the books and wouldn't exactly say it is written for man, even for me l, it was way too 'hunny-bunny-cheesy'... with some rough sex in it.

So, if you are after the cheesy - ' oh he touched me and my inner goddess was dancing' then this is the book for you...
if you are after the rough sex, you are better of watching porn.
