My affiliate blogging journal

OK i know everyone is doing these threads these days but i feel it will help me to document everything publicly.

My goal
To make, consistently, $200 pm ($50pw) from blogs, within 2 years.

This is to be profit after expenses spent. I know it may seem like a small goal to many members but it is something i would be very happy with.

Strategy
I currently run slutsbukkake.com

I have learnt a lot from that and will continue to improve that. I also plan to launch another 4 - 5 blogs in niches i am interested in, and update them a few times a week each. I will also use free hosted blogs to develop micro niche blogs, much as other members who are good at making coin from blogging do.

Time & Budget
This is my main constraint. I will not bill out my own time as i class it as a hobby, and i plan to be able to spend 5 - 10 hours a week on this project; meaning across 2 years i will put in a minimum of 500 hours.

I am going to start with an initial budget of $500 seed capital, and reinvest any earnings back into the blogs up until the 2 year mark. If i need more funding before the end of the 2 years i will assess my situation and see if i am getting results, and if the ROI is worthwhile. I do not need to pay hosting costs, as they are covered through some non-adult sites that i run.

Details
I plan on using no more that 5 - 6 affiliates as any more than that, across 6 sites, then my cashouts will be too infrequent.

I will create a 'network' or sites so to speak, so try and hook users in as much as possible, sending them between other site on my network.

Traffic creation and SEO are probably my 2hardest challenges. Creating and maintaining the sites are easy for me, its just a matter of getting enough views to convert to sales.

I would appreciate any advice/strategies from users who have done this before like anexsia et al, but aside from that i plan to fumble my way through it and hope that this thread allows me to document my time and money spent so i can see what works and what doesnt

Not sure if this is a serious response or not. But considering the time (not much) and money (minimal) i will be putting into it, then i thought $50 pw is a fair target.

Obviously the more the better, but i have virtually no idea how to get there

I really don't know what you mean by minimal time and I don't know what $50/week would do for you so it's hard to gauge but $50 week doesn't really seem worth it.

It a challenge for me. None of my mainstream sites make much either, so i want to actually dedicate a plan and time and actually get to making some beer money doing something i enjoy. I know i could make $50 way easier (ie spend and extra hour at work) but this is a challenge for me

I will be putting 5 - 10 hours a week towards it for now, and hope that in 2 years time it will not need much attention at all.

If you have any tips/advice it would be much appreciated

You need to fix your CSS. When I hover your titles they turn white...on a white background.

I think aiming for less than minimal wage is not the best of goals to have, unless you are in some 3rd world country...

OK this will be my last post on my aim. $50 pw is the minimum i want to earn, as it is a hobby and far from my day job. I basically want to get it to that amount to prove i can do it, because as yet, every site i have ran, doesnt make a consistent profit.

If i get there within 6 months, then of course i will increase my target.

For those that have said it is too low, if it was easy for yourselves when you started i would appreciate some info as to how to go about it

Set a bigger goal. If you get 2 sales a week at $35 PPS, you've already blown past your goal.

And what does $200 a month really do for you? Why bother?

Make your goal bigger so it forces you to stretch a little.

I agree, nothing wrong with setting small goals, with using minimum time and effort. If you like, give us a look as one of your programs used, and I or my affiliate manager will help you along the way, you can even use our designer "through us" to help get you going.

I made my first $35 PPS sale three days after launching my first blog. You need to set your goals higher, if only out of self-respect.

Good start dude- IMHO, Leave no stone unturned!!!

1) I'd focus on a few blogs (rather than just one), writing some nice juicy copy for each post thats nicely tuned towards your keywords. Then give it a bit of time, link your blog to autopost to twitter accounts and make sure they're updated regularly.
2) Add some Plugrush plugs- they give you a good return ratio.
3) Hop onto Linkspun and get some hardlinks traded.

Eventually google will take notice of all the stuff it likes to see and you'll get some worthwhile SE hits which in turn will turn into conversions. I think most small program owners (m'self included!) will relate to the need to build your own traffic, becasue it *does* work.... certainly does with our content anyway.

Which, while we're in the subject! (wink!) check my sig for some nicely converting SplatBukkake content. If you need anything specific, come hit me up!

PlugRush is definitely a tool you should look into, in order to both grow traffic, and monetize.
Redirect mobile traffic for some extra revenue right away. consider using a popunder, and place some widgets on your sites for trading and selling traffic.

I think a lot of people missed this part. If only as a hobby then a few extra hundred a month never hurts.

Are the 6 sponsors you plan on pushing all in the same niche or closely related?

I thought this was going to be a blog about affiliate programs and whats up with them

Noticed that, too. The OP has a pretty realistic goal if it's just a hobby.

Thanks for all the support, glad we have settled that my goals are fair for a hobby site.

To all those offering help/advice/affiliates thanks very much, i will be in touch this weekend.

My sites will be across a few different niches, but obviously some posts will be able to fit into each niche, such as asian bukkake etc.

For those wondering, my current ratio for slutsbukkake.com is only 1 sale so far, off of about 2000UV. I will begin in earnest this weekend so will update again then

Do that straight away. Just because your shitty ISPs Nameservers take 72 hours to update doesn't mean my Google DNS (8.8.8.8) won't resolve the nameservers quickly.

So get those blogs setup pointing to your IPs as soon as you point the nameservers.

OK i now have 3 new sites set-up and basic details, analytics, themes, plugins etc installed.

Total time so far spent: 2.5hrs
$ spent: $67

To do - get banners designed and installed. Touch up themes. Get a few posts for each site ready to go. Go live officially

Ok another hour spent today and i'm ready to launch 2 (basic) sites. Spent this hour tidying things up, getting everything matching, putting in ads, posts etc.

Obviously i still have work to do on both of these but they are live and hopefully will be noticed by search engines soon.

ok this is really frustrating me. Both Countingstacks and Hypetraffic use NATS and will not let me login due to 'invalid password and cookies not enabled' i can assue you that both are correct and both programs will not respond to my enquiries about this

OK so i have got it down to 10min per post now. Spent another half an hour today just updating sites. If i can update each site 3 times a week i will be happy. Do this for a couple months and try and get the SE traffic coming in

Anyone out there care to comment?
