Felony charge for couple sneaking into movie

Yet, you can illegal download all you want.

http://www.techyville.com/2013/02/so...with-a-felony/

Quote:
Lendsey and Delilha Harbin allegedly snuck into the film ?Warm Bodies? and were caught by an off-duty police officer. That?s when their legal problems began. The couple, as a result of their seemingly harmless decision, is now facing over a year in prison after being charged with a felony. Even more amazing is that police and prosecutors are determined to see this one through.

Well, look at all the arrest that have been made for downloading with felony charges.
That would be about zero right?

I may be incorrect, but downloading a movie "illegally" probably isn't a criminal issue but simply a civil issue. If you seed it back out though it'd be a federal crime AFAIK.

Look at ninja video. Granted it wasn't downloading, but people have been busted for that, albeit not felonies.

Anyway, I would probably find them not guilty because they didn't actually see
the movie (I think) or have a physical ticket so what did they steal?
If they never took a seat then they never occupied the "rented space" either.

Further, the cop said the guys "colorful" clothes caught his attention and that's
why he approached the couple. Colorful clothes don't fit the definition of probable cause
in any reasonable law for them to even be stopped or questioned. The cop was off duty also.
How the hell does an off duty cop with no probable cause make a FELONY case for theft
of something that none of them ever saw?

WTF!!

I hope the cops go to jail for manslaughter in that case.
I've thrown plenty of people out of bars and I swear that none of those people
had any trouble breathing while I restrained them and thew them out.

Confused .... what about what happened makes this is a felony?

On a related note could care less when someone sneaks into a movie. But fucking DESPISE when they sneak in and are noisy, disrespectful fucks. As if since they snuck in and got away with it they now own the theater.

$6.75 for a movie ... was it a matinee show? Haven't seen prices that low (in the states) for a looong time.

People get prosecuted all the time for having the intention of committing a crime. How about these undercover police officers posing as hitmen? Well, the hit hasn't actually occurred yet. But you'll still be charged.

How about Chris Hansen's "To Catch a Predator"? Those guys all purely had the intention of committing the crime.

Nothing. The DA always tries to nail people with the most insane charge they can possibly pull out of their ass. Then they get you to plead to something less. If this ever went to trial they'd never get a felony conviction.

Maybe they stole a box of popcorn too, That would be enough for felony theft.

Somebody actually made the movie "Warm Bodies", Now there is a crime.

Was trying to work out what amount is considered "Felony Theft" in Indiana and found this in a search:

Quote:
"Grand theft" or "grand larceny" typically refers to thefts that are usually considered to be felonies (compared to "petty theft" which is typically a misdemeanor). The threshold is based upon the value of the article stolen and is usually $500. However, Indiana makes no such distinction and all thefts are felonies."

I've heard the $500 amount, but never heard "all thefts are felonies" in any state. Learn something new everyday.

Yeah man, but get this...........it's a movie!

It's not an attempted murder, sexual assault or even a grand theft.

They attempted to view something that was worth $7 a view.

They certainly committed an offense, but with the kinds of things that happen in this country, it's kind of silly to call this felony level crime.

When I worked in a bar, people sneaking in was something we laughed at when we
caught them. We didn't call the cops and slap them with a felony.

Ease up, people are just trying to have a little fun.

I did not read the article, but telling me this happened in IN makes total sense. That place is so fucked up. I have a house for sale there and once it is gone I will never return there of my own free will.

That is surprising to me as well, and pretty absurd. In California it's $750 as far as I know.
