I have literally been running spinrite on my main laptop drive, as it has completely failed me. Today marks its 5th day running, with like 190 hours to go. Since I have it setup, I will be recovering my other 3 laptop drives that failed previously. Then I csn finally finish up some old work lol. I guess its time for solid state.

I lost a bit of stuff a few months ago, I was in the process of transferring to a new computer and I stupidly only have some files on a new WD Mybook 2tb USB drive and the thing crashed hard... tried pulling the drive out of the case but it was toast... Now I've started using WD red drives hoping they are a little more reliable - and always keeping two copies.

Take the opportunity and get yourself a copy of Acronis True Image and save yourself a lot of grief. Doing backups is fine for files but its still a pain in the ass having to load a fresh OS an all your programs.

Acronis allows you to make a clone of your drive so if failure occurs its a few minutes to swap out drives and be back up and running. Takes maybe an hour to clone the average drive.

Lost my HDD 6 weeks ago on the office pc, luckily I was able to get the important stuff off it and onto my new one. Rocking a solid state drive now, hopefully will be a while before this blows up.
