You must be something wrong. Write off everything... If you work from home you can legally write off a portion of your mortgage and power....

Are you taking advantage of all of the opportunities out there like setting up an LLC but having it treated as an S-Corp so that you can pay yourself a reasonable salary and only have to pay SS/Medicare on the reasonable salary and not your member draws?

Fortunately not. I'm in Russia. I love to visit the USA as a tourist but I definitely can't and don't want to live there as a citizen.

Agreed.

There's a shitload you can write-off as a registered corp. Equipment depreciation (cameras, computers, office equipment, etc), transportation, a percentage of household utilities (if you work from home)...hell, we even wrote off a fibre-optic Xmas tree one year as a studio/photoshoot prop.

RevCanada even allows an annual "corporate retreat" tax write-off (read: vacation) as long as it's x-amount of miles from your home/office...and you merely need to 'discuss' business briefly to qualify it.

We even claim the $800 it costs us to have our corporate year end tax return done.

It's your right and responsibility to pay as little in taxes as possible under the law.

If you're paying that much in taxes you should probably be spending more on things that could be considered business expenses.

Where I live, if you want to start a company you need CEO, accountant and staff, and of course to pay them all.. Otherwise, you can register as an single entrepreneur (sole proprietorship) and that makes you responsible for all profits and debts with everything you possess. If you fail, you might lose everything you have... live in the park, smoke a joint with the zombie hippies, etc.

Thanks to my merciful master and the foreign earned income exclusion, I will be paying zero this year.

Back in the old days African slaves had to give up 100% of what they produced. You're only 56.3% away from being on the same level as they were, minus the beatings and forced breeding of course. But you would still be punished severely if you didn't pay. Kind of crazy if you think about it like that.

Allowing slaves to become free range slaves who choose their own profession was the most brilliant move ever.
