CloudClip is a nice one that let's you clip something to your clipboard on your desktop and it gets copied to your clipboard on your iPhone or iPad.

The Mac OS X has the Terminal app included, which may be all you'll need.

You should see it in your Utilities folder, or type Terminal into the Spotlight search box that opens when you click the magnifying glass icon in the menu at the top right of your screen (or when you hold down the command key and depress the spacebar).

Here's a page with ssh commands in case some are different than what you're used to using.

Not sure if they'll do what you're looking to use them for, but you can take a look at these two.

What do you need a GUI for? Terminal does everything PuTTY does but better.

Mac programs

Carbon Copy Cloner - Clones your hard drive in case of crash

Data Resuce 3 - almost wiped an external HD, got at least 98% back

FileZilla Free FTP

Rename - bulk file renamer

DFS22 - duplicate file finder

Aluminum Skin Calendar - older versions of iCal had a better skin. Haven't found the right calendar program yet. But a couple of years ago Apple made the same stupid mistake as Microsoft and all colors are washed out. I can't tell red from brown or orange.

If you don't like the terminal you should try iTerm2 that offers much more customization.

Go with Coda. You can edit files online or upload using sftp / ftp, comes with build in code editor with syntax highlight

The apps I use the most is
Coda (paid)
Mail (free)
Skype (free)
Evernote (free but pay for biz account)
MS Office (it's even cheaper than the windows version)
Notes (build in)
Radium (online radio, paid $2 or $3 for it)
Raindrop (auto upload screenshots, subscription)
Dropbox (free app)
Timemachine (build in)
LastPass (free app with subscription)

To increase your productivity I recommend looking into using smart folders both for typical files you search for on your HDD or typical keywords / contacts you use in mail.

It's worth learning vim. You'll be able to edit html/scripts/configs on your server if ever you need to instead of having to upload/download all the time and it is extremely powerful.

Dual CPU or dual core CPU ? I had quad core from apple on my last 2 MacBook Pro's, I think they started the quad core line 2-3 years ago

Apple Store

If you're anywhere near an Apple Store, use the Genius Bar for problems, hardware or software. Usually free repairs. Just make an appointment. People bitch about the price of Macs, but when you take a computer back to Best Buy, you'll know what up your ass means.

Quoted for truth .... no other computer manufacturer has anything even close to Apple when it comes to service after the sale ....

They will even train you how to get the most out of your apple products for FREE!

My monster-in-law bought an iPad last fall ..... did not know even how to turn it on .... now she is a seasoned pro on that thing!

I have a mid 2011 13" MBP with i7 proc and I upgraded to 480GB OWC Mercury Extreme SSD and 16GB RAM

(My boot time from cold is 14 seconds - and loading the full Adobe CS5 Collection brings it up to 24 seconds.)

I dropped alot of dough into this rig, but I am counting on it lasting me for at least 5-6 years ...

My last iBook lasted me 6 years, and my daughter is still using it for her first year of college.

Macs are like diesel Volkswagens ... treated well, they will last forever, and they hold their value pretty good too!

---------

I also have a mid 2010 13" MBP with 2.4Ghz C2D and 16GB RAM (stock 250GB 5400RPM) that will boot up in under 35 seconds ...

RAM is your best bang-for-buck upgrade for macbooks

another vote for sublime text 2. Fucking love it. Switched from textmate.

for ftp/sftp I use transmit. Worth the couple bucks. Like how I can mount sftp/ftp sites as volumes. So then I can just edit files in sublime direct from the command line.

install brew to get lots of other packaged goodies.

I use irssi as irc client.
install xcode and then go into the prefs and install command line tools. That's a must.

tweetbot I like for twitter.
evernote.

Those are off the top of my head.
