What is unethical about letting an adult search engine sponsor an adult industry event?

how about acacia sponsoring a show? both .xxx and acacia were viewed similarly, bottom feeding assholes looking to extort money from adult companies.

I wouldn't put the two in the same boat, Acacia had no interest in being part of the adult community. I also never saw what the big deal with dot xxx, if you don't like them don't buy them.

Logic has no place in this conversation. We can save that for Phoenix.

big brands not buying their respective .xxx run the risk of someone else profiting off their name. get your .xxx before someone else was their main promotion method. defensive registrations aka blackmail was a large percentage of their business. i see juicyads has theirs.

That's what trademark protection is for, I'm fairly sure if you went and bought juicyads.xxx and started an adult ad network we could take the name fairly easy. Just like when guys buy different trademark brands on other urls.

I understand when dot xxx first came out some of the fears and anger it caused, but we are now just around the corner from seeing dot sex, dot porn, dot fuck, and thousands of other TLDs. So to me it just seems dot xxx was ahead of the curve in the TLD game.

a lot of lawyers and trademark experts are saying what a clusterfuck its going to be for trademark protection with all these new tld's. no matter what way you want to look at it, its going to cost money to protect a trademark. money that wouldn't of had to be spent if not for .xxx and the like. not to mention the smaller guys who don't have trademarks, pay up or shut up for them.

all of these new tld's are nothing more than a money grab for ICANN and the snakeoil salesmen behind the registries. the majority of domains bought will be trademark violations. how many millions of dollars will be need to be spent protecting trademarks across the globe because of it? its insane.

I understand where you are coming from, but the reality is the way internet grows daily that at some point dot com isn't going to be enough and it is the natural evolution. So being pissed at dot xxx seems futile. What about dot cc which for years has been marketed as a dot com alternative rather then represent the Coco islands or whatever country code it is.

there are all kinds of retarded tld's out there already but they aren't sponsoring shows. all of this aside i don't get why any show would allow a sponsor that so many hate. you'd think it would be counter productive.

They were trying to convince people to mandate all xxx sites be on .xxx so everyone who has worked hard on there .coms for years would be forced to buy the .xxx if I am not mistaken. Yea, ofcourse they can sponsor any show. The shows are in business to make money, and what .xxx was trying to accomplish really never came to fruition. So its kind of moot now. But they had bad intentions.

The problem with .XXX is that they were and probably still are planning to get porn banned from non-porn TLDs, a % of the money from each domain went to a lobbying group.

Fortunately they overpriced their domains, at least for now

Sure, If there was a way that I could make it so that you could only buy or sell traffic through Juicyads I would try and do it. I think that plan went to the wayside when other tlds were recently approved, would be hard to say I can't have porn on my dot porn domain.

And if you knew that a rival advertising business had that plan, to eventually change laws and ban Juicy Ads, I doubt you'd want to give them any business

When they sponsor a show the show will receive a payment
When the show organizer receive a payment from someone they are more likely to generate a profit or to increase their profits
If they generate a profit or generate high amounts of profit they are less likely to increase the price for a badge
Thy are also less likely to reduce the hours for things like the snack station
Lets say they get 20K from that sponsorship, would it be better to spread that amount to be paid through the show tickets so each attendee pay a share instead ? They could probably also drop the food station or a happy hour or so which really isn't needed for business purposes

Just wondering, not going this year ( because be snack station hours was reduced last year, only reason I go )

You people make me laugh, You have such a big problem with .xxx but are ok with tube sites...

Edit: The traffic you get from search.xx more than makes up for the price you pay for the .xxx tld

And I wish all porn was forced onto .xxx, then maybe they could enforce rules, ban tube sites and then we would all be making much more $$$

ccbill tries to keep the forum all-inclusive, if the attendees and sponsors fit the qualifications and there are open spots, they should be good to go

as far as the politics issue goes, its not really fair to give them flack for letting .xxx sponsor, without giving them credit for allowing attendees to attend that big clients and sponsors threatened to not sponsor or pull the processing if they were allowed to go

they do this as a way to show that the show is bigger than any one individual or company and no one has the power to exclude an attendee or sponsor

I disagree. Remember when gfy allowed that one company who stole content to skin the board & by day 2 gfy stepped up to remove it? This was in 08 I think.

It was ICM that applied for .porn and .sex. So imagine if they had all 3 TLDs and THEN lobbied to get porn banned from all other TLDs? Then the powers that be may believe "well 3 TLDs is surely enough for the adult sites out there".

Not that they'll necessarily go that route, but they could. They got .xxx passed against the wishes of the vast majority of the adult industry to begin with.

Fuck, now I see they're a mix between Gandhi, Mother Teresa and UNICEF

Come on... money talks, it's as simple as this.

I have no issues with that, but trying to cover it with how fair and benevolent they're is ludicrous, it's just money speaking.

And as we're on the subject, I find funny how some people thinks this industry is made of ethical businessmen/women with a similar agenda of rights and duties, when reality is this industry (as well as any other) is filled with hypocrites who will stab you in the back and sell your children for a couple bucks. There are some exceptions, as in any other industry, but they're just that: exceptions.

.xxx would love that, yet the majority of us have spent years developing and branding a portfolio of .coms and to be forced to switch over .xxx would destroy our revenue. I get why you'd be gung ho for .xxx if you didn't have that.

Vote for the future with your money, every $ is a vote, if you use your dollars for .XXX domains then some of your money goes to Washington to make it more likely porn on your .coms will eventually be banned.
