Lynnwood is a good area. I5 and 405 have easy access. Its only about 20 mins north of Seattle. South of Seattle like Des Moines, Kent, Renton, Auburn, Federal Way is cheaper but more blacks there.

Bump for the handful of GFYers that I know up in the Emerald City to check-in...
I was born in Seattle, but haven't lived there since I was a kid, although I still visit relatives there. Beautiful area, and Seattle has a good cultural scene. Still pretty affordable (compared to the San Francisco Bay Area). Have luck in Seattle. Stay dry... ![]() ![]() ADG |

That's a pretty broad question.
![]() You can live among all the weird hipsters in Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle in a tiny apt., you can have a decent sized property about 10 mins out of Seattle, you can live on a huge farm anywhere from Seattle to Bellingham. What are you looking for? House? Yard? Apt.? |

i grew up in washington state, and have spent most of my life here, lived in at least 10 cities in washington... recently moved back after a few years in LA.
the public transport in Seattle pretty much sucks(as does traffic). the new light rail, when it is done will make life a lot easier. $2 to the airport from downtown is awesome, this route is the only finished one, so far. parking in seattle sucks donkey balls, no for real, worst then anywhere ive ever been. When they have hempfest, the parking expands over 3 miles from the venue. the sports teams are OK ![]() the weather isnt as bad as most people think. the volume of rain is lower then NYC in fact, its just that there is a lot of over cast days, the summers we will go 90 days without a drop of rain, easy. Seattle is far from cheap, rent in Issaquah(nice place) is on par with downtown LA or Beverly Hills(where i moved from). Bellevue and downtown are also in this price range. aside from belltown(which is trendy as all get out), downtown downtown, is not a place to live, very high rent, but you wont want to go out at night on foot, lots of bums and stupid shit going on. there are also a couple of "section 8/hud" buildings in downtown that also drag it down as a place to live. if you want to be close to the city, i would look in "eastlake" union or queen anne neighborhoods, not too many trendsetters as they are fairly expensive but not over the top.... decent view from both. Magnolia isnt bad either but a bit further out. if you want to avoid trendy, dont go to capital hill(lots of homeless hipsters begging) greenlake(super trendy but hotties at the lake in the summer) the u district and ballard. Bellingham gets a LOT more rain then Seattle, i lived there and didnt like it much. a lot of hippys and a lot of college kids and wannabe gangsters. only place in America i have seen guns get pulled outside of a club. you might like it, personal preference. Allegant air flies here though, so flights are cheap at least. there are three counties between Seattle and Bellingham, you can take public transpo the whole way, but its 100 miles and takes 4-5 hours with transfers. if you dislike the rain, and don't need to be in the city, id also look at whidbey island, fidalgo island, camano island, anacortes, oak harbor area, they get a lot less rain. are out of the way but don't require a ferry to get to. if you got the cash for decent rent and dont mind living on an island that is a bit slower paced, Bainbridge is a very nice place to live, just gotta take the 30 minutes ferry ride and your in downtown ready to rumble. oh yea, Seattle PD is crooked as shit, so watch out for those guys. weed is legal though! got any more pointed questions, hit me on icq: 82667356 |

As with any large urban area, the further out of town you are the cheaper it can be. I live south of Seattle, south of the airport almost to Tacoma. Housing costs are considerably less than north of town and the public transportation isn't typically as crazy as when coming in from the north or eastside.
I'd suggest coming to visit for bit, explore the areas by car. Determine how far out from where you work you can tolerate being etc.

I am in Greenlake (next to Eastlake) and enjoy it. Rental prices have a pretty broad range since it is close to the university. I have easy access to downtown without feeling too urban, and being close to the park is nice. Public transit is not that bad in city limits.

My daughter is going to college there, she likes it, uses the public transit, she hates to drive.
She shares a house with some other students

I lived there for a few years in the early 1990's so I likely don't have much to offer right now. As PK said out of town is better price wise, but if you are going to commute into Seattle daily that could be a pain the ass because the traffic sucks.
I lived right downtown when I was there. For about six months in the more northern end of the city and then rest of the time in an apartment on the eastside. Transit then was great so I would assume it still is then. I had a decent size studio apartment with a city view and didn't pay a whole lot, but I think that neighborhood has become more trendy so it is a lot more expensive. It had a bus stop in front of my building so I didn't even own a car (which at times was a pain) All over Seattle the mass transit is pretty good, but if you have to rely on it to commute a decent distance research in advance because you might find it to be a long ride every day. |

STAY AWAY! It rains all the time, everyone is mean and grungy and are totally hyper and addicted to coffee. It's cold as shit and the wind tears right through you! The roads are shit and the traffic TERRIBLE! Prices for renting/buying are through the roof! Highest cost of food in the United States! Please PLEASE make the right decision and move somewhere else that is better suited..like San Diego!
