It isn't actually the backpack. It's an anomaly in the brick structure. His bag may have been photoshopped out or the kid could have even been photoshopped into the photo.
 Also notice how the man's jacket says MIT and the woman's hoodie appears to say BOMBRS (I'm sure it doesn't, but that's what it looks like in the photo). What are the odds? |
