Please suggest some documentary films, true story movies, and/or books on life/business. Too much?

Please suggest some documentary films, true story movies, books on life, or business.

The last documentary thread I started was filled with conspiracy shit, I have tried to go back through it and pick out what is worth watching because, I enjoy a lot of documentary films. But, I think that thread got too clogged up with crap.

But anyway, I'd like to hear your suggestions on books, films, whatever related to true events, true stories, life in general, business, and inspiration aswell.

All ideas welcome except what I am now calling; religious conspiracy beliefs.

Just read this one: I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell ... I hoppened! to enjoy every paragraph!

"Tucker Max drinks to excess at inappropriate times, disregards social norms, indulges every whim, takes no responsibility for his actions, rebels against any authority, mocks idiots and posers, sleeps with more women than is safe or reasonable and generally just acts like an asshole."

I was going to include that, but it would be fairly long, and doesn't excactly support my views, just things I've watched.

Off the top of my head;

Docs:
Inside Job
Senna
Whore's Glory
Miami mega jail
Folks over knives
Food Inc
Water
Water Wars
Nature of things (series, watch when I can)
Life
Planet Earth
Ross Kemp on gangs
Extreme world (kemp series)
There is lots more, Panorama, Vice, CNN/CNBC etc docs on various subjects. BBC docs, etc.

"True" story movies:
Ali
The Fighter
American Gangster
Apollo 13
Argo
Catch me if you can
Fair game
Schindler's list.
Many others.

Books on life/business:
Think and grow rich
The success system that never fails
Blink / Pretty much all Gladwell books.
Atlas Shrugged / Ayn Rand in general.
The Game
Dragon's den members books.

That's just a small selection. I like suggestions because they usually throw up things I've never touched on before. I've missed a lot off those lists.

I need to read his books, I don't agree with him on face value though. Too many ass/arseholes can't be a good thing though

Forbidden Lies -- it's about honor killings in Iran and how one woman escaped the country, but takes a weird turn about halfway through. I'd suggest not reading anything about it before watching. I caught it by accident on HBO and couldn't stop watching.

Hot Coffee is great too.

I just saw "Something Ventured" Really fascinating:

"SOMETHING VENTURED tells the story of the creation of an industry that went on to become the single greatest engine of innovation and economic growth in the 20th century. It is told by the visionary risk-takers who dared to make it happen…Tom Perkins, Don Valentine, Arthur Rock, Dick Kramlich and others. The film also includes some of our finest entrepreneurs sharing how they worked with these venture capitalists to grow world-class companies like Intel, Apple, Cisco, Atari, Genentech, Tandem and others.

Beginning in the late 1950′s, this small group of high rollers fostered a one-of-a-kind business culture that encouraged extraordinary risk and made possible unprecedented rewards. They laid the groundwork for America’s start-up economy, providing not just the working capital but the guidance to allow seedling companies to reach their full potential. Our lives would be dramatically different without the contributions that these venture capitalists made to the creation of PCs, the Internet and life-saving drugs."

I always liked the book Tandy's Money Machine which is about Charles Tandy who made Radio Shack into a successful cash cow niche business. Guess you have to be a nerd maybe? I did think it was interesting though how he had actually new ideas on how to sell even if he broke the law sometimes and ran himself into an early grave.

China Blue is a good documentary you can find on PBS.org still probably.

Don't read anything about Forbidden Lies if you can avoid it. You could possibly have some things spoiled -- because sometimes people are idiots when they write about movies.

Hell yeah, Gonna find that. Love the stories of guys going out on their own and driving themselves to the brink.

In Alone in the Wilderness, The guy makes everything himself. Makes it look a little too easy.

there is a lot of truth in the mystery method, I have no doubt about that...

i like the negging and the "peacocking" part, especially when mystery went too crazy with it...this shit made me ROLF I still make jokes about that with friends... ow it's ON!

Alone in the Wilderness parts 1 and 2, Silence and Solitude and The Frozen North are all about Dick's life at twin lakes. They are well protected so you should probably just buy them at http://www.dickproenneke.com/videos.html and own the DVD's.

If you like that kind of thing, then you may also like watching Survivorman Les Stroud's original trek into the wilderness with his wife which you should be able to find on Youtube searching for Snowshoes and Solitude.

naked castaway from discovery looks kinda promising :D
That show originally aired as Naked and Marooned and all of the episodes are online one place or another. I thought it was pretty good but too short (4 episodes I think?)
